I wasnt sure on a title here, but basically the gaming group that I have are all kind of digesting the MK2 book and stats (we missed out on the field test, so this is all new to us).

While I was going through my options I came across a few questions that I do not feel should be in the general Cygnar discussion.

For my lists I try to build well balanced "all comers" lists, when I play casually. So with that in mind I am having a hard time figuring out the "roles" that some units have, especially when compared to other units.

I am kind of looking at the overall picture regardless of what else is in the list. So basically for the same point cost, would anyone rather have the B13th or a Charger? I can see the survivability of the charger, two shots, but could use up a lot of focus to work at full effect, and the warcaster I use would depend on how I feel for the day. Could be caine, stryker, haley, nemo.. anyone. for my army, I will have a unit of ATGM and the captain UA for them. I do not know if it will be necessary to have that many gun mages on the table.

I am kind of set on using the gun mages since I play Highborm mercs also.

The second question I have is in a shooty army, that has Trenchers (anti-infantry), 10 Longgunners (anti-jack), and Celena and the Nyss Hunters (anti-infantry/ light jack), if you had to pick two of the following what would you use?

I am at a complete loss on this one, where I can see the advantage of both. I like the damage the Charger can take. But the B13th are pretty self supporting. I am going to guess that the B13th is better in this regard.

Harlan Versh; extra shots, and anti-upkeep spells
Trencher Chaingunner x1. Can advance deploy, and dig in. I like them since they will benefit from feats that impact Cygnar units such as pStryker.
Gorman di Wulfe; to go around and use Black Oil or Rust on a target. I view him as a one hit wonder. Pretty much I do not expect him to survive the turn after he uses his gernade, since I typically use Black Oil and he hits himself.

*I am leaning more towards the Chaingunner, and Harlan Versh myself on this one.

Thanks for any suggestions.

the black 13 give your 4 po10+3d6 shots if necessary - the charger provides a maximum of two pow12+3d6 for focus. if you have a jorneyman available - take it and add a hunter (against medium and large based targets) or a charger against medium ARM targets. otherwise: go for multi-purpose and get the b13 into your list, they fill multiple roles rather well and are rather survivable themselves.

if you want to stay within your first thoughts, i suggest b13, harlan and gorman - together, they build a very dangerous, fast and hard to hit flank that will intimidate most opponents because if they do not focus on those five, stuff will die and be damaged!

if you have the b13, take gorman die wulfe - he is the inofficial third member to the team as he provides them with protecting cloud effects or weakens their opponents.

versh is one of the best short range, good to very good damage output solos cygnar can use.

the chain gun is usuable as an element of denial for your opponent - it usually does not kill anything due to its low pow and the new rulings for strafe-attacks and unit formation.

have you considered feeding more jacks to your army instead of units? the thead can manage loads of infantry while being rather tough himself. if you need support against heavy targets, take a look at stormblades with their ua or at stormguard - both can cut through large amounts of opposite troops and heavy targets like jacks.

As for jacks, I was planning on having a Journyman with a Defender.

And then including a Hunter, Ironclad, and Lancer at the minimum. The Charger is in there but I am afraid that I would stretch my focus too thin with 4 jacks under my warcaster.

depends on the WC but, if your bringing the defender then you probly dont need the hunter, (i dont think its very good anyway...:() dropping a jack lightns the focus reqs a bit....

I definatley plan on taking the Defender to go with the Journyman warcaster.

It is the hunter that Iw as contemplating as a jack to either make my opponents kill it, or have it just go after a Heavy Warjack. I can tell from my list so far that I will have issues with two or more Heavy Warjacks (such as Khador) so I was thinking the Hunter would be a good option to address that. Plus the Hunter brings some speed and pathfinder to the list which I like.

Ironclads make a great addition to any list really, P+S 18 with Crit. KD and Tremor is a steal at 7 pts.
