I was wondering what would be the best way of making a list for retribution that uses the Battle Mages as the main core? is it worth maxing the squads out? and things like that...

If you really like Battle mages that much you cant really go wrong just following Rahns tier lists.

You don't need to 'max out the squads', they can only be a 6 troop unit. The biggest problem with a battle mage army from the games that I've played is that they only hit with a magic ability of 6 and a POW of 10 - not really effective at taking out much. If you do the tiers, make sure to take melee centered jacks, you'll need the hitting power. Also Halbardiers are a good choice.

What you need to add to the lists is some ranged ability, a Mage heavy list is very capable in medium to close range, with all it's magic attacks, and it's quite strong (but light) melee abilities... but if anything can deny those offensive abilities (magic immunity and/or difficult terrain), then it's an uphill battle. Luckily all our heavies have guns, and if you're running a Rahn tier army you've already got two in your force.

@Battlemage: If you are interested in the Rahn tiers - "Charge of the Battlemages", then feel free to post up and ask questions in the Mittens for Kittens thread (in my signature), that's what the thread is there for... though it has suffered from two recent forum shifts/crashes, and my distractions in real life.

@WarcasterKramer: I meant taking as many squads as I could fit into the Pts value, I know theres only 6 to a squad.

@thecsharian: Thank you for showing me those threds. They are very incitful. Which heavies do you think will work better in the tier lists? The Pheonix and Hydra?

Phoenix is pretty much a definite though - reach, combustion, arcnode... and an AOE.
Hydra will camp focus and give some extra distance to your ranged punch, but unless you're mixing it up close with enemy heavies, I think it loses a lot of it's depth of use.
In smaller games I'd (probably) go with the Manticore (over the Hydra) for more ranged attacks, higher P+S in melee, and lower pt cost.
