View Full Version : Cleansers: Min vs Max?

Has anyone found one size to be more effective than the other? In MK1 I never really bothered with greater than the min of 6, but then again they didn't do much outside of revive as bombs for ToM or cloud cover for Vilmon.
For 8 points, would a 10 man unit be too redundant? I realize that the same price would yield a Vanquisher who could clear infantry just as well, but I'd prefer not to rely on him too much.
Also, what's your preferred method for using these guys? I'm thinking of using them as a flanking unit, ala scattergunners or as some has suggested for Zealots. Wishful thinking is someone will allow one of our units to become immune to fire. I guess I can incinerate Vilmon as usual, perhaps improving his survivability as you can do the order on someone in Melee.
i only own 6, but if i had 10.. id definatly always take a full unit.
i usually use them as bait, Stick a few of the unit in charge range, put the rest few inches back. anything stupid enough to charge them, gets aiming bonus Sprays next turn :) and if they dont charge them and charge my knights etc next to them, they still get aiming bonus sprays next turn in the face ;D
as a defensive line behind your frontline troops. very powerful deterrents if you dont mind possibly shooting your own men of which then why are you playing menoth :P

Generally 6 works. But 10 with 10 you are more likely to have a few left over late in the game, perhaps even in the position to aim a few sprays.

I don't think you can, because you're not allowed to make a CRA into combat, and the order describes itself as making a CRA.

Is Correct. There was a ruling on this in another topic a long time ago. they cannot use the incenerate order as it is a CRA and you cannont cra into melee.

Lol, that's why I have 8 of them!! :(
I can't say I've fielded them too much. They just aren't very tough. With Errants being the same points I'd rather go with them.

I have a tendancy to let them burn things off my TFG wall at the front of my lines (I move them to the left of my wall after I get charged, then use the no melee penalty to my advantage to bring the fire), however I normally only field the 6, need to start mucking around with all 10 :)

I've found them to work well both ways.

The Cleansers are good at 6, but for some reason I try to fit the full unit in just for attrition. A few will get through or be able to support the army better later in the game.
I just wish they still had the irregular armor rule so I could have Cleanser Bombs back....

Now now, we all know we aren't suppose to leave our foes with no choices but ones where they die, and while it was funny to run them backwards into our foes line, it probably wasn't very nice. It's the same reason we can't have Blazing Aura anymore on eFeora, it was just too much fun.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO very glad this rule is gone! Now cleansers are actually useable as a unit! Which is far better than having walking grenades that are more threat to you than the enemy.

I completely agree with Paradox. We basically had a unit if super scrap thralls. It was not how they were supposed to work. They do their real job now.
