Is Warmachine and Hordes cross compatible? Lets say i wanted to play a Warmachine army and my friend wanted to play a hordes army can they fight against each other or would 1 over power the other?

Completely. Hordes and Warmachine are wonderfully balanced against each other, although a few grumpy folks around here might try to tell you otherwise.

Are they created to play against eachother or are they 2 different worlds all together? Example WH/WH40k

They're very much created to play together. The action all takes place in the same world, and the basic rules (movement, shooting, melee, etc) are the same between the two games (unlike WHFB/WH40K).
The only real differences are between Warcasters/Warjacks of Warmachine and the Warlocks/Warbeasts of Hordes. Essentially, it is the way in which these units interact that defines the difference between the two games.

1 more quick question, lets say i buy a starter warmachine army and my friend gets a starter hordes army would that be a blanaced fight or would 1 overpower the other? Just wana make sure before we go spending money.
And is the book warmachine prime remix, and hordes primal the books i would get that would work in conjunction to eachother so we could battle eachother?
thanks for your time.

In "theory" they should be competitive with one another. I've found they are, more or less, so feel free. You have to remember that some things are rougher match ups and some players have faster aptitude on the learning curve so it might seem like one is more powerful than another. While most boxed sets are somewhat competitive with one another, not all boxed sets are as easy to learn to play properly.

Oh, and one thing to remember: Get the Warmachine Prime Mk II book. If your local hobby shop is anything like mine then they still have the older Mk I books in stock. Warmachine Mk II just came out, so make sure you pick up the right one...Otherwise you would have to pick up another $30-$45 book to get the current rules.
