My First Mini in 10 years

I just started back into minis after being out for about 10 years. Below is pictures of my first mini for Warmachine.

I've already decided to switch to a paint scheme with red shoulders and the central carapace. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I do realize I need to do more prep on the mini (file down the flash lines) before painting.

Not bad, I like those brass rivets. You seem to have kept your brush control over the last decade so it should be easy to get back in the saddle and start expanding your techniques.
The best advice I could give for your next steps would be to shade a little more and try to find a matte varnish to go over that gloss sealant.

The sad part was, it was supposed to be matte. I'm more than a little perturbed about that.

For a good matte sort-of-varnish I could recommend you the Clear Matte Enamel color by Revell.

Testors Dull Cote is quite awesome. Put a nice solid coat down and it will knock down any shine.

+1 on the brushcontrol. Maybe you should water down your paints a bit more and use multiple layers. From the pictures I get the impression the paint looks a bit smudgy instead of a flat coat of paint.

Pretty sweet, man! I'm not sure why, maybe it's the colors or the gloss, but he reminds me of a hotwheels car... in a good way. Looking forward to more from you.

This ^ +1. Take the shine down a little and he will look pretty cool.

Next time maybe try an armor wash over the metallics and maybe spend some time shading the green areas.
