View Full Version : Mob Mentality in Resurgence

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking of taking 20+ Mechanithralls w/ Brutes and a Necrosurgeon to Resurgence. There's just something about that scenario that makes me want to flood the zones with a zombie hoard that replenishes itself, and then take something like Skarre, a Harrower, and a Leviathan to stand back and punish anything that tries to take them out.
I'm not married to the idea, but I like it. Thoughts?

I don't know about the jacks (though I am a melee nut so...), but 20+ McThralls accompanied by Surgeons is probably the best way to make your opponent cry. ;) I can just imagine Skarre's feat turn though, 20+ McThralls with P+S 16 fists running around killing everything...if your opponent wasn't crying before, he will be then.
I think it would an incredibly mean, but definitely viable option. the only thing you'll have to worry about is actually getting the whole unit into the scoring areas...but you've got Surgeons for that I guess. I don't know about Harrower and Leviathan (never used 'em) but I'll be taking a Reaper or two for drag shenanigans (they can't contest if they're not in the scoring area).

Actually, that's a good point. Now that the Surgeon is its own unit, it could hold a zone by itself.
As for the Jacks, my thinking is that between them I have (1) something for hard targets [Levi], (2) something for infantry targets [Harrower], and (3) a Ranged threat, which people don't generally expect coming from Cryx.
Really, the strategy boils down to: Round 1, run the McThralls towards the first zone and take it; Round 2; mob the second Zone and try to take it, get Skarre and her jacks in the first zone, and then pop her feat to make the McThrall mob ARM 17 for a turn; Round 3: Hold two zones and, if the opportunity presents, take the third/kill the warcaster. I may bring a Helldiver for harrassing the Zone I don't control.
Consider, at 35 points:
Skarre
--Harrower
--Leviathan
--Defiler
--Skarlock
Max McThrall
--Brute
Max McThrall
--Brute
Necrosurgeon
Machine Wraith
I've not had a chance to test it, but I am highly amused by it.

Having looked back at the Levi and Harrower, I think they may be an okay choice (not my choice, but again, biased). You should also consider taking the Cankerworm instead of the Defiler. I know that everyone's been down on the poor guy in MkII, but on Skarre's feat turn he is scary good...I actually lost a game because I underestimated how hard that little bugger can hit. Plus he'll give you a stealthed element with AD, and also give you the option to charge by stuff without worrying about free strikes.
Anther option is getting rid of the skarlock and getting a second Necrosurgeon, just ritual sacrifice every turn to have enough focus. That way you can pop out 6 McThralls everyt turn instead of only 3. That being said, when you test it out, let me know how it goes because I'm definitely interested at this point.
Remeber that scoring only occurs at the end of the second player's second turn.

I love the Cankerwurm, but in this list, I need the Defiler for two reasons: (1) I want the Spray, and (2) I need an arc node. When I go up to 50 points, though, the Canky is a good choice.

I'm doing the same thing with denny.
Less of a spam list (i could take 20 mechanithralls, 3 brutes, and necroface) but im going to do a unit of mechanithralls w/ 3 brutes, unit of necroface, and a slayer. With the ability to go epic, and eDenny being one of the best scenerio casters... period, i can't get myself to take skarre. I love skarre, i take her in almost every event, but for tourney play with the funny build rules, i feel im better off with a more rounded off list.

Yep. Recycling is one way of doing it. Such being the case, Tartarus cranking out more banes is another (admittedly more expensive) option.
Another thought is to bog my opponent down with incorporeals; (Blackbane's are cost effective; six hard to kill models for six points).
I'm thinking of holding my own zone with a single light jack, while pushing forward with the rest of my army to deny my opponent points.
