View Full Version : I'm a new guy, what Menoth has done for me

So I'm new to the WM world. I've officially played a total of 4 games, all with 15 point 'jack only lists (I would say Mangled Metal, but two of my opponents played with some infantry). First off, I have to say that I'm loving WM so far, it's really great fun. I've always enjoyed the "Play like you got a pair" mentality, and thoroughly enjoy the give and take aspect of the game. I figured I'd come in and share my thoughts so far.

First off, I've won 3 of the 4 games. The very first game I played, Reznik left 2 boxes left on the Khador warcaster (don't remember who he was using), only to drop next turn. It was a great fun game with a lot of 'jack death before a warcaster faceoff. The next two games saw Reznik vs. Siege, playing against a fairly new guy as well. I have to say I love Reznik, he's so much fun with a nice threat range (with Engine). Both games I screamed him in and took apart Siege. Putting heathen casters on wracks makes me smile... Finally, last game, I tried Feora out (since I actually own her model from when I wanted to play in Mk. I). Didn't like her nearly as much, however, Engine of Destruction still gave me the win in the end. Poor little Lich Lord couldn't handle it.

The things I've learned:
1. I love Engine of Destruction, I'm almost scared to try a caster without it.
2. Devouts seem to be a great buy. I very much like having something around to babysit my caster. In a 15 point game it might be a little excessive, but I've been using him to good effect I feel.
3. I love Reznik and I can tell you why. Being able to affect movement is very powerful. People will expect they are safe, then I pop a Perdition and all of the sudden they're taking a charge.

I'm looking forward to burning/converting more heathens!

You are an excellent example of "fresh Mk. II-ery" (you have to say that out loud).

Why? Your second point.

Dig a bit into this very forum and you'll find a relatively lengthy thread with a hell of a back and forth on the Devout. It's nice to see someone without Mk. I in the back of their brains have an opinion on that piece.

Also, kudos on not calling it "Engine of the Gods" anymore :p

Congrats on the wins!

I would say that I expect as you increase the point values of your games, the opportunities to go all Engine of Destruction on enemy casters will decrease. So don't feel too bad about branching off from our favorite executioner, and Feora.

I dont have any hate on the devout at all, it is still a worthy jack in my opinion, i dont know why people hate it so much. reznik is awesome, i just bought my reznik and have yet to wrack anyone, im on my way though.....its only a matter of time.

Also too, try out a TEMPLAR with reznik, it sounds like theyare soulmates

Welcome to the old faith, brother. One less heretic this day.

Congrats on the wins and I wish you lots of fun with the Protectorate. In larger games you'll get a feel about infantries and the game might turn out more flavorful.

I did see that there was some debate about the Devout, but I own one, and don't own any of my other favorite light (Redeemers man, those look sweet). It turned out well for me, and I can only imagine in my young (to WM) mind that it gets better to have a bodyguard as the game grows.

Sorry Loveless, it will take time to shake off GW's names and wrap myself in the comforting flames of Menoth...

I'm picking up a couple plastic heavy kits, the new cards, a redeemer (or two perhaps), and probably one or two other things this Thursday. Looking forward to being able to play proper games.

Devouts are great. And check out the Fire of Salvation when you add infantry, Righteous Vengeance rocks.

Man, I'm trying to resist the temptation to pick up some Redeemers myself. See, the new plastic Vigilant has me me wondering about either plastic lights or at least conversion opportunities. Very difficult to resist, I tell you what.

Ah yes, and congrats on the wins - I forgot that in the last post.

I'm wondering how the vigilant will be! Hopefully some type of chain attack/pitch rule. That would be very neat.

I played MK 1 as Mercs, and Circle, but picked up Protectorate for MK II, and I have to say, it is really fun playing one of the big factions for Warmachine (as opposed to me playing my Circle, or me playing mercs, which had trouble in MK I.)

Every game I play I usually enjoy, seeing many synergies in my army and the ability to deny my opponent some of his plays is powerful; I have to say I'm loving the game more then ever.

I agree with the Devout! I think its a great 5 point light, and I usually have one chilling with Feora, if not, I like another rather hated vanilla-jack, the Repenter. I like the auto-fire RAT 7 POW 14 (because of the amazing Choir!) ROF 2 (Vassal!) 8inch flame thrower that it has, and if I need to, it can get in there to tie up a heavy for a round.

Engine of Desctruction is indeed a great spell, usually the only one I cast with Feora (although I have tossed a wall of fire here and there). I chose Feora over Reznick because I liked the ability to cripple infantry-machine armies with her feat; and fire is always fun.

Good job on the wins; I too am fairing well with my MK II Protectorate games!

Many may not like this but. "Menites what is your profession?"
BTW If you enjoyed reznik try Amon. Watch what happens with synergy and the crusader being the last to resolve attacks. One word Pain. Making a win against cygnar is really good for your first few games hope to hear more good stuff.

The Vigilant is the new dual-shield light we're getting, right? I'm really excited about that, as shields are pretty sweet. Are you thinking there will be plastic light kits (similar to the heavy kits) Loveless? I thought they were only doing the heavies...

So I'm going to go pick up the majority of my "starter" force tomorrow. Very much looking forward to playing with some variety and maybe jump up to 20-25 points. Finally going to own my two Paladins and Vilmon! Sean, I don't mind Amon's rules, but I think he is the stupidest looking warcaster in our arsenal, possibly the stupidest looking model next to the Allegiant.

As to plastic lights - I know the Vigilant is plastic. As it's on a Prime chassis, I plan on holding out to see if it towers over the others (Redeemer, Repenter, Revenger) before I decide on how I want to handle the lights in that family - i.e., conversion or not.

Amon can do some crazy-stupid things with 'jacks. He's not that bad in appearance. Definitely a lot of flesh to paint, however...and Oblivion looks better if you don't have it randomly spiraling around his body, I've found. The studio posing of Amon makes me wonder how the heck he's attacking with that thing...though I'm not exactly familiar with chain weapons.

You and I both. I see way to many Behemoths, Sniped Defenders, Vyros' birds eye Hydras, etc. to not have a Devout there to take one for our DEF 14 / ARM 14-16 casters.

I dont have any hate on the devout at all, it is still a worthy jack in my opinion, i dont know why people hate it so much.
Because I own three, and now have no reason for more than one.

Well... maybe Amon.

I like the Paladin team, they are a fair add on to a small Jack force. Next I would suggest The Choir, and a vassal. Temple Flame Gaurd w/ unit attatchment and an Avatar should be in your future too.

I actually already have a Choir and a Vassal. I had a week long interest in Mk. I some time ago when I picked up the Choir and the few 'jacks I own now. The Vassal I picked up a week or so ago when I decided I should buy something... because I felt like it. As far as infantry, I'd rather like to wait to buy TFG until they are re-boxed. I picked up some KE since they are a full unit box already... I'm mostly VERY excited to get Paladins going. I'm going to play with them until I figure out how to make them awesome, then I will continue to be awesome with them. The original Paladin sculpt is SO SWEET!

As an outsider and a regular opponent of the protectorate I'll let you know that paladins are annoying as...well they're very annoying, they hurt me. Also the temple flameguard are a great buy, it's like 6 points for a full unit that can sheild wall? again, annoying for me.

But the real reason I posted today was to call Reznik names, he keeps wracking my lovely druids. He is by far the most fun Menite caster to play against.
