I am getting my son the two player battlebox starter for his birthday and I have a question. If I want to buy him an additional booster or two...should I go for certain sets/series that are compatible with this base set or will pretty much any of them work? What about the building expansions? Just curious what will make his birthday that much better in addition to the base game.

Also, what is the overall health of the franchise? Selling well...or in decline?

For the first three sets you are better off grabbing another battle box for the first set as it gets you all the buildings and for the next two sets you are better off grabbing the DMZ box http://monsterpocalypse.com/products/dmz-battle-miniatures-game-expansion for the factions he wants.

For the two newer sets if you can get them cheap the go for it once he is solid with the first three sets.

As to the state of the franchise, it's in a holding pattern till the movie comes out.

Hope this helps.

Speaking as a new player who has done his research- battlebox, matching dmz. Keep in mind that the battlebox is a blind buy- you don't know which two factions you're going to get, so wait to buy DMZ.

The boosters are blind buys. Get him map packs instead (in addition to the above). New maps and unique buildings.

Boosters are also blind. I don't see much of a point for new players with the BB and DMZ sets.

Not sure on the financial health of the franchise other than the DMZ sets seemed to sell out overnight on preorder.

I would echo the buying of DMZ boxes instead of Booster packs. Just find out which faction of the initial 6 factions he likes the best, than buy the two player starter and the appropriate DMZ for the chosen faction.

I wouldn't worry about it if the starter doesn't contain the chosen faction just cause that means you or one of his friends can mess around with the two other factions to change up the gameplay, and if it does contain the chosen faction, bonus!

I'd generally stay away from the regular boosters because not knowing what you're gonna get will likely lead to disappointment.

As far as the future health of the game, well, the release of the DMZ boxes is a good sign that PP is trying to improve the distribution of the game and make it easier for new people to get into it without wasting money, so thumbs up for that.

FYI, miniaturemarket seems to have bought up all remaining map packs left on the planet. They have 600 of each map pack in stock for $6. Also, huge stock of boosters for all 5 sets, huge stock of ICNY mega packs, and at prices a fraction of what they were when originally released. It really does seem like they struck a deal with PP to buy all remaining MonPoc left in the PP warehouse at a deep discount.

At those prices, and with DMZ and the two-player battle box, this is a great time to get into MonPoc!!

WOW! They got a TON of new stuff in the past couple of days. I wonder if they worked a deal with PP.
