View Full Version : New Monpoc Player w/some questions

So, first of all, a little history. I'm an avid Warmachine player. About a month ago, I played a small, short tutorial game at my FLGS which introduced me to Monpoc. I paid no attention to it until about a week ago, when for some reason it became intresting. After a visit to another FLGS and the starter being on discount due to overstock, I took the hint from the tabletop gods and bought it.

Currently, I'm reading the rules to get myself ready for a game.

So some questions:
1) Are the original boosters still in print? I'm currently looking into playing (in importance): Terrasaurs (com'on, it's Godzilla), Planet Eaters, and GUARD (who doesn't like giant brawling robots?). There's a lot of pieces from the first I want (notably Terra Khan and the other terrsaurs), and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to pull for these?

2)Two player battlebox. I'm trying to get a friend to play as well, and he's liking the Shadow Sun. I'm wondering if both factions in the two player box are preset, or just one?

3)Community trading. Is there anywhere on the forum that's devoted to trading?

1) Not sure if the original (random) boosters are still "in print" or not, but they are still available in shops here in NZ. The latest set of boosters, which has just been released, called DMZ contains non-random sets of the original 6 factions, including the three you've specified.

2) My understanding is that the contents for each faction are set, but which specific factions you get are random. Not 100% sure on that though.

3) Not here, but I'm sure you can find some at the usual places (bartertown, etc).

Check miniaturemarket.com for the boosters... I'm not actually sure if I'm allowed to post a link to another company here, I guess I should have checked first, but they have the boosters for cheap. Seems like they got a deal from PP on the leftover boosters or something, because they are CHEAP.

well, I ask because I'm a veteran of CMG games, and someone mentioned to me that Monpoc was different because they didn't retire sets. The local store that I got my starter from has a bunch of both Rise and I Chomp NY boosters at discount, which I'll be buying over time.

Well, "didn't retire sets" is accurate if you mean the sets are still valid for play (they are - there is no such thing as an officially banned or retired model in MonPoc), but not so much if you mean will always be "in print".

AFAIK, PP has no plans to continuously release, or go back and re-release old sets, so once the stock from the initial production run(s) is gone, it'll be gone until such time as PP decides to re-release them. If DMZ is anything to go by, it looks like PP won't be re-releasing old sets in their original format, but rather in a non-collectable format.
