Hey guys, looking for a bit of advice on dealing with my biggest problem. How do other people handle super Butcher threat swarms? Looking across the table at the Butcher, 2 heavies, MoW Bombadiers, Grey Lords, Yuri, two manhunters, and the great bears makes me simply go "Wow, if any model in his army finds a lane to my caster the game is over..." I simply can't deal with it. eventually one of them will break through somewhere, especially with Iron Flesh to protect them and Fury to make cutting through my defense essentially effortless. What caster do you think is best able to survive this onslaught?

i prescribe Reznik and a Wrack go straight for the assassination. that stuff sounds disgusting

Nothing survives that onslaught! So, the best trick is to hit them harder :) For these sorts of problems, I suggest 2 enlivened jacks, Temple Flame Guard, Greater Destiny Zealots, and a good solid defense buff if you happen to have it. A Vanquisher might help if the Iron Fangs are coming along with the Great Bears to play.

Kreoss, Eyriss, Redeemer, Reckoner, 2 Vassals, choir + X. X should be a well rounded army. Idrians will be helpfull, too.

So you play:

Kreoss
Redeemer
Reckoner
2 Vassals
choir
Full Idrians + UA
Piper
Covenant
Eyriss

You put defenders ward on the Idrians and give them +1 defense with the piper. Then you will see how your opponent deals with def 16 spread out infantry, that perhaps (if itis within 10" of the Covenant) doesn't go kD.

You shoot at him with a lot of stuff and in the Feat turn you can easily kill his caster with Eyriss (taking away his Focus), the Redeemer, the Reckoner and CRAs from the Idrians.

The Butcher has nothing to make his jacks go faster. He has nothing not so much too shoot at you. He can't help his infantry or his jacks to hit high defense.

Kreoss will be behind the Covenant a bit in the back. If you go for the assasination move the Covenant out of the way and charge something of your own models, so that you move 8" and then use your Feat. This makes 22" Threatrange.

I faced a smaller list (25 points) with butcher three heavies and man o wars in a tournament recently. I was running Kreoss. I threw defenders ward on a unit of daughters of the flame and ran them down his throat. Went right for the butcher and kept him pinned deep. Daughters can mess up man o war as well, and sitting at defence 17 they are really hard to hit back. Basically they tied the butcher up enough that Kreoss and his redeemer got in range to pop and drop for the win. Its worth a shot as a tactic that this list will likely have issues dealing with.

I disagree with this comment entirely. Full Throttling all of his jacks allows the butcher to run/charge his jacks every turn while hiding behind a wall of shock troopers. The jacks are then moving 6 to 8 inches every turn. Add this to his jack choices, 2 kodiaks and a Devistator, and you have a wall that can take a charge without flinching and destroy you on the next turn. By forming the troopers in a V, he makes it impossible to slam any of them out of the way. Then the jacks come straight up and go to town. You really have to line up all of your buffs on taking down the Devistator, or it will just buldoze to your caster then tear you apart on feat turn. I have against this list ended up in a situation where I have the charge on his models, but doing so doesn't help me as only one or two of my models would be able to do appreciable damage and none are strong enough to survive his next turn. Ranged support just pings off their heavy armor (even a cra from an entire unit of idrians only does 8 damage a turn to the kodiaks and 3 a turn to the devistator). I think next time I face him, Reznik with some ranged support and a unit of flanking vengers might be able to get to the Butcher before I get steam rolled.

I think what Garth meant was that Butcher has nothing to increase their charge threat range.

Going head to head with a heavy Khador army is tough, and generally fails.

Another option is eSevvy. Cast awareness or feat move his MOW out of the way and shoot butch, then and shoot with Vanq's and recks. If I had to tailored a list, that is what I would do.
