I would like to field a unit of Long Gunners in my Magnus Agenda, but I'm not very fond of the models ( I even heard they're off scale, to big compared to other WM models).
Is it tourney-legal to paint up 2 units of Widowmakers or Cygnar Rangers to use them as proxy's? They look a bit more like deserting Long Gunners to me. I like the look of the Widowmakers, and I could add the IK Khadoran Rifleman figure as a unit leader for diversity (unless they're using him for the Widowmaker solo they will be releasing of course).

Although it is not strictly tournament legal to use other models as stand-ins for long gunners (or just about anything else), it is ultimately up to the discretion of the PressGanger running the event. I would suggest asking your local PressGanger what his/her policy is on proxy models.
As an aside... metal Confrontation Griffon Fusiliers would make an AWESOME long gunner unit. You'd need to get 2 boxes for a squad of 10 (and can convert the two spares into the UA).

aren't they a bit too small for warmachine? I already use a Rackham mini as Narn, but it looks a lot smaller compared to the warmachine mini's.

It would not be Legal, The Tournement rules are very clear, conversion must be based on the original models that they are based on, a heavily coverted other model, is never acceptable for a totally different model.
Now that is just the letter of the law, many TOs particularly if you took the time to convert and paint, won't care, as long as you don't change what they are, but be prepared at a bigger events to have a backup plan if the TO nixes your conversion(I haven't heard of it happening, but that doesn't mean murphy's law won't show right up on time and screw you at an event)

actually they make a stndrd bearer and one of those griffon monster hunters could be the leader. The rifles are bendy so beware....wonder if i could fix that....hmmmm.

But they're not for the faint of wallet.
(They can be had for cheaper than at the links provided, too, links just for picture reference).

They would be right at home in an army with Kell Bailloch, then. :D
The Freebooter models suggested by Photogasm are nice, but also a slightly larger scale than standard PIP models (so would suffer the same problem as the Long Gunners). They are really beautiful, though.

Those freebooter models are nice indeed. I've seen them before and I already use the Captain o the Imperial Armada as a proxy for Vlad. I didn't notice a size difference though, aren't all Freebooter mini's 30 MM then?

Someone else on the boards uses them for LGs and said they were a good size for Warmachine.
