I think that Thyra has a lot of potential, and so I'm working on a cohesive list for her. I'm somewhat new to the game, and as the title says, would appreciate any input the community has on an army for her. Kindly bear with my wall of text xD
For 'jacks, I'm torn between taking two heavies (Blood of Martyrs or a Templar and a Vanquisher or a Reckoner) or taking 3 Dervishes (or alternatively 2 Dervishes and the Blood of Martyrs).
The problem I'm seeing with 'jacks is that Thyra needs a substantial amount of her focus for her great spell list, as well as for turns that she needs extra melee or defense, leading me to lean towards running just the two heavies and adding in some solos that add to my focus efficiency.
With either 'jack route, I will need to buff them. A minimum Choir is pretty much a given. A Vassal of Menoth also seems good, as it gives me even more out of turn movement, as well as the option of additional attacks. A Reclaimer is also a possibility, as getting focus from my dead units would be nice. Another addition that would increase focusAs for troops, a unit of Daughters of the Flame is a must. I am also leaning towards taking either a unit of Knights Exemplar, or possibly a minimum unit of Exemplar Errants with their UA.
I am also seriously considering several mercenaries.
The models I'm considering right now are as follows:
Warjacks:
- Blood of Martyrs: Good damage output, a few nice abilities, and some neat mobility options with Thyra (Affinity: Sidestep).
- Templar: Can give and take a good beating, and has Beat Back, which is awesome for an army concept based on mobility.
- Vanquisher: Between Thresher and a decently ranged, good POW continuous fire AoE, the Vanquisher is an appealing option to give me the ability to clear out enemy infantry.
- Reckoner: Long-range gun, Assault, and some nice DEF de-buffs. Good for a hard target kill.
- Dervishes: Fast, mobile, and decent damage. A nice, annoying addition to the army, but not so good versus opposing heavies.
Units:
- Daughters of the Flame: They're fast, have Acrobatics, and CMA, although their individual damage isn't great and if they get hit, they will almost certainly die. They also get Vengeance from Thyra, and are a potential candidate for Occultation.
- Knights Exemplar: Who doesn't want Exemplar? They're a little on the slow side, but their weapon masters with decent survivability and the potential to be seriously annoying.
- Exemplar Errants: Not quite as good in melee, but the also have a (relatively weak) ranged attack, and with their UA and Seneschal, they have Pathfinder, Quick Work, and Hunter. Also candidates for Occultation to increase their chances of getting into melee.
Solos:
- Choir of Menoth: Because I'm playing Menoth.
- Reclaimer: Being able to essentially get focus from my troops as they die is awesome. However, Reclaimers are fairly squishy and will potentially be focused down.
- Vassal of Menoth: Gives me more out of turn movement, or an additional attack from a 'jack.
- Heirophant: Can heal Thyra, give her better range on her spells, or increase her focus efficiency slightly. The problem with a Heirophant is that Thyra will out-pace it.
- Covenant of Menoth: Continuous fire on a unit/model's weapons, immunity to knockdown, or no spells in its Command Range. However, its slower than most of the infantry in the army.
Mercs:
- pEiryss: Great for shutting down a careless enemy caster, and gives my enemy another element of my army that they can't ignore.
- Rhupert Carvolo: Terror and +1 Def, Pathfinder, or Tough to one unit is hard to pass up. However, the points might be better spend elsewhere.
- First Mate Hawk: A fast weapon master with 2 swings and Acrobatics.
Are any of these models I shouldn't consider for this list? Are there any good ones that I'm missing? Thanks for any input! :)
