I love the Pirates...

I love having a bunch of sea dogs running like crazy people and shooting crap as the cut through the lines of folk with a doc standing behind them keeping them all upright.

I have some theory lists. Have people had success with their lists at all? 35 pts is my typical size as it's quick and yet still can be brutal. Any Talion charters out there? Any good lists?

Here's a 4star list that I have
Bart
- Bucc
- Mariner
- Freebooter
- Freebooter
Croe (full)
Dougal McNaile
Gorman
Bokur or Eiryss

I also have a Talion list
Shae
- Freebooter
- Buccaneer
Commodore
Seadogs full + UA
Press Gangers full
Bosun
A+H
Rockbottom
Doc
And Hawk/Dougal/or Meg depending on what I'm facing for 35 pts total

This is my shae 35pt list that I have found works pretty well

Shae
-Freebooter
-Mangler

Bosun
Doc
Hawk
Rockbottom
Dougal

10 sea dog crew
Mr Walls
3 Riflemen

The Commy.

I tend to leave the pressgangers out until 50pt games, just because you get so much with the sea dog crew that I want it maxed, and if you gut most of your opponents army on the feat turn charge, then spawning more seadogs isn't too beneficial. It does suck when you're playing against a caster like denny, who can crippling grasp your 1 unit though.

I always take a mangler, no matter what merc caster I'm using, the reach + thesher, and the ability to take a hit or 2 is gravy.

iirc you can't bring a mangler with Shae. Shae doesn't work for the 4* and you can only bring Privateer models with the Talion charter.

Actually

An army constructed under the Talion Charter contract can include Captain Phinneus
Shae, any Privateer mercenary models and units, and/or any mercenary warjacks

If it wasn't that way you couldn't take jacks at all, as none of the jacks have Privateer in their type line.

Talion charter can include mercenary war jacks AND Privateer Models. No Mercenary jacks are privateers. Shae can and should always use a Mangler. One principle weakness Shae armies have is a distinct lack of high power hits: we can't spawn off POW 15 Press gangers anymore. Sure, Freebooters can throw jacks, but sometimes you don't want to throw it, you want to kill it. Freebooters also have next to no survivability(neither do Mariners, for that matter), which means you don't have an effective counter to enemy jacks.

Hence my advice, almost insistence, that you use at least a Mangler, Nomad and Freebooter. Why? Each serves an important roll in the army. You could probably go two-nomad swordbrothers, I guess. But I like the mangler, and Doc isn't all that useful.

I like to use the following:
Shae
-Mangler
-Nomad
-Freebooter
Commdorre
Sea Dogs(min) /w walls, 3 Riflemen.
Rockbottom
Hawk
Dougal MacNaille

There's a lot of versatility in the list. It's a 35pt list, and against Cryx I would drop Dougal and a rifleman for Aiyana and Holt.

At 50 pts I throw in Press gangers, Aiyana and Holt, Doc and Bosun and I'm good to go.

Particular kill vectors:
Slamming a Heavy Jack over a caster and shooting it to death with sea dogs. If your enemy won't oblige you, use your own heavy jack as a slamball extender on the caster. Shoot him with Sea Dogs under Money Shot: RAT 6, POW 12(effectively). With Aiyana and Holt you can touch that off with an affliction and holts hand cannons. IT may not kill Siege or the Butcher camping focus, but it will work on casters with ARM 16-17 and no armor. Dougal can use his multi-fire to peg the caster too.

Oh, setting casters on fire is great, too. That's another reason I keep Dougal around. He's got an accurate quad-iron for infantry, and he can boost the accuracy of the fire-shot, which is great at clearing out shield walls and dug in troops. The fire shot is critical for taking care of multiple, low armor targets.

I do have to say that I have a fond spot for Bradigan. He can really dish out some hurt with gang-fighter and storm rager(MAT 11, POW 13 weapon master with two attacks) and he combos well with hawk. He's much better with a bokur, steelheads, or the like, though.

Wow, those are really great ideas. With how many people got killed by burrowers pow 14s in the field test it is not too crazy difficult to set up either.
