Possible new troll unit sighting?

Looking at the bottom left of the Skorne battle engine art it looks like there are some warriors with spears. Anyone else see those? The other guys with the axes and spiked clubs had me wondering if they're the same as the warriors in Hexeris' art as they have oddly shaped axe heads.

I can see what you mean regarding the spear wielding model, the weapon is certainly nothing at all like anything within our currently known range, though I must admit that I struggle to see a role for a spear unit in our army unless it happens to possess ranked attacks, giving units such as sluggers and scattergunners a true covering foil to work behind.

I am sure they aren't but the description you gave (warriors with spears) first made me think, "Are you sure they aren't gators?"

Definitely some guys with spears. The other guys look like possible Kriel Warrior types. Could be just artistic license, or could be some new units. Wyrmwall is a location they haven't done much with.

I guess they *could* be Kriels... but likely we are seeing the new troll model or two.

I can see your idea of spearmen, kinda like IFP or TFG are. I kinda would like to see the club wielding one as well -- perhaps as a the new heavy infantry choice I've been aching for.

I don't see shieldwall happening, since they are usually reserved to towershields, but I can definitely see the rest of it happening

They can't be kriels; none of them have shields.

Also, these same guys (single-handed axe/mace wielders) can be seen in the epic Hexeris artwork. Definitely a new, probably non-reach, unit.

No idea what that spear is at the bottom. Could be a different unit/model from the other guys.

PP have focused a lot on showing actual models on drawings since MkII came out. Artistic freedom to invent models is quite unlikely. I like how one of the trollbloods try to batter the dinorider-beast, while holding on to it's foreleg. Must be berzerkers of some sort.

The armor on the speartrolls dosn't look like kreils. They look heavely armored. The trollin in the center, just right of the monsters leg, wears a big sheild and the troll in the left corner defenitly wears some kind of full plate armor. This could be a new unit for sure. *Cross my fingers and hope for another reach unit*

I wouldn't be surprised to see that it is in fact a new unit/model of some kind. PP has VERY rarely ever put something into a piece of artwork that isn't present in the game itself. I can count the number on one hand; on the hand that's only got four fingers... and still not use them all.

I have been wanting a unit of female trolls for a while now. Not so much because the female trolls so far have been great (I am looking at you Janissa and Grissel), but a unit of Calandra styled females would be so cool. And they would fluff wise help explain the odd female warrior/hero/warlock. They should be called "Shieldmaidens", uuuoooooaooo

Honestly I think it is more of perspective chaos. Some look like warriors, the spear ones look like impalers while the one with a shield is using a flail much like a bouncer.

Trolls can steal weapons on the battlefield.
Those Kriel Warriors had just grabbed long weapons taken from dead Karak troopers to deal with that walking "Skank" (Skorne-tank). <-- Yes, I coined that term first!!

Now, let's get it started: "Did you see the tail on that Skank?!" :D

That Skank shows up on every battlefield with about 4 skorne on it; a pilot, a gunner, a hornblower and that guy with a huge spear.
But the skank heads right for our new units... correction Warlocks (thanks Sev) who are all Bouncers and Impalers as well (thanks coldyin) because they are the hot new thing and it wants some of that.

The back armor of the troll/trollkin holding the spear seems like the Bouncer Armor. The troll/trollking beneath hi, my be a Bouncer (the shield do look tike the bouncer one, despite I don't see a chain in his other hand). May be they are the new look for a plastic rescuplt of our no elemental lights (I hope no, 'cause I woluld hate having a Impaler and a Bouncer with the same body). May be the Troll with a spear is a character bouncer (that would be nice).

The rest seems like Kriels, but is weird 'cause it's true they have no bucklers, and there are one with no weapon but a shield.

Unit leader looks definitely male to me. The standing grunt with the headband is definitely female though.

You must not have bought a box of them then, or they fixed the packing since the first release of them. I know that my box, along with many others, came with one chick model and two of the "leader" models in the picture.

I can't see Trolls geting a shieldwall unit with armor more than 13 OSW; because armor 20-21 under the KS is nasty.

I could see a separate Champ unit, to take advantage of the Champ Hero. Um, all champ army yes please. Thing is they usually do a theme list with unit in conjunction with the caster and I can't see a high mobility caster like Jarl with a lot of champs e Grissel is up in the air.

Here is something to think about, it could be just a two man unit, or another artillery piece.

Remember DW is spell so 1) it had to be cast, 2) it has to be up kept [think this can be mitigated with their WA but I am most likey wrong] 3) it can be dispelled or ignored via arcane assassination/blessed weapons.

Granted you have to feed the stone, but you don't have to worry about the other stuff.

Eek yeah forgot about his feat, armor 24 8 wounds each... evil stuff.
The UA is a bit of skornergy though, it gives them Spell Ward so if you have the UA you cant get Defenders Ward (silly skorne).
Its true its easier to get rid of, but for a hordes army its not exactly easy even if you do include the Thrullg (its dirt easy for warmachine ofcourse).
Even with 20 armor and another 2 from KSB I dont see that unit being anywhere near overpowered (our hypothetical new unit).

Don't get me wrong I would love a shield wall unit with reach (my other armies not so much); but it feels like PP is trying to move the trolls into a shooty centric area, the sluggers, the bomber, Jarl, Gunny, Scattergunners UA(that one was needed.)

Looking closely at the picture it almost looks as if there might be two different units pictured - one with spears and one with maces/axes.

Although is it possible they are a heavliy armoured unit with throwing spears, large shields and normal melee weapons - kind of a Troll equivelent of pilum equipped roman legionaries ?
