I´m sorry to bring another using mercs. vs. using our menite troops question, but as I already mentioned in few other threads, I own few mercenary models - and that´s probably the main reason, that I´m still looking for alternative troops/jacks/solos for my menite force (I´m a huge Kreoss fan - I´m like him - first khador now PoM).
Now I have the Redeemer on the one side and Herne+Jonne+Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile Combo on the other and I ´m looking for the pros and contras from your perspective.
What do you suggest? Stick with our troop (because of synergy) or use mercenaries (cheaper on points or some specialities - like reroll on AOE deviation).
Thanks a lot.
I'll solve your second question, cause its easy.
You can't use a Bokur in the protectorate.
I'll let someone else help with the others ;)

Herne and Jonne and MacNaile will run without focus, but will also run without support. If you're already including models in the list that could sufficiently buff a Redeemer (i.e. Vassals, Choir, or a caster like eFeora or Severius), it's probably a better choice.
You might want to consider Deliverer Sunbursts in this equation too, since two of them cost the same as a Redeemer and will knock out the same POW blasts as a redeemer infused by the choir, over a larger AOE. Same range, but lower threat (since they can't move and shoot), but vastly more accurate, don't require focus at all, and can punch holes in medium to hard targets if the enemy doesn't have any appreciable infantry targets.
Don't get me wrong, Herne, Jonne and MacNaile are good, and I use them frequently in both my Cygnar and Merc forces - but in a faction with as much internal synergy as Menoth, it's often better to look for an in-faction option first.
Not specifically regarding your combo, but consider this:
When you play a merc contract, you use a merc warcaster, with mercenary models. Most of those merc warcasters have nothing specifically for mercenary models, aside from running mercenary jacks.
There is not reason for you not to play a Protectorate warcaster with mercenary models, unless you have something Protectorate specific in their abilities.
In the case of Kreoss, he has one buff that only works on protectorate models, Defender's Ward.
Just make sure you have a target for that buff, eg. a unit like TFG or Bastions, and you can fill up the rest with mercs.
Also, even if you don't run a Protectorate unit, you can still put it on one of your jacks. Templar, Vigilant and Avatar are all nice targets for it.
You like your mercenary models, use them with a protectorate caster.
It could be said, that in most cases playing one of the 5 other factions you get better models than mercenary, yet here you are playing mercenaries anyway. So just keep playing them.
