Hello everyone!

My LGS is going to be having an unofficial Warmachine/Hordes MkII 35 pt tournament during it's next all night gaming event.

I want to represent the Protectorate well, but I'm not sure how to put together a competitive army for my favorite caster, pFeora. Up until this point, I've been mainly a casual player, so any advice would be appreciated.

pFeora has no real strong synergies that requires her to take certain models.

As a counter example, eFeora gives auto-fire to her bonded jack and wants things on fire for her feat, so she really likes having a bonded Redeemer, Vanquishers, Repenters, Cleansers, etc...

That said, while pFeora should work well with just about anything, as she can't really buff and likes to hog her own focus, things that work on their own (Avatar), things that buff your stuff for her (choir, vassal, covenant), and things that buff her (wrack, heirophant) are all good choices.

There was a pFeora tactics thread that was pretty good, that should be on page 2-3 of this forum.

Well the thing that stands out about pFeora to me is that she really hoses infantry. So your list should primarily focus on delivery methods (getting across the field relatively unscathed) and heavy hitters for taking out high ARM targets.

I like a max unit of TFG + UA with her. They're a good all purpose unit that she can hide behind until the right moment.

The Avatar should definitely be taken with her, as it generates its own focus.

As mentioned above, she likes to keep a lot of her focus. Vengers are also good with her (although a lot of people aren't into cavalry now adays) as they provide high STR attacks, comparable to that of a 'jacks, but without taking focus.

Oh and I'd take a Devout. Feora really needs to get close to the enemy to take advantage of her feat and hear tremendous melee ability with EoD.

The rest I'd fill out with whatever models I like/have available. I think a lot of people will disagree about Vengers with me- but I've had success with them.

When building a list, I look at three things:

1. The assassination run. Feora doesn't have any fancy moves, and her 11" charge range, while nice, isn't exactly gamebreaking. For Feora to succeed, she needs a straight line to the caster. This means you need ways to knock things out of the way. Exemplar Seneschals do this nicely. The Templar would be a good choice, except that you'd be eating up a lot of your own focus, which you need for the assassination run.

2. Feora needs to maximize focus during the assassination run. This means you should have a Heirophant, and probably some Wracks (though, depending on how aggressive your opponent is, you may be out of range for the Wracks by the time you try to kill him).

3. The Avatar is a great thing for Feora, as is an Arcnode. The Avatar's large base gives it an impressive 8" AoE with Blazing Effigy, and Gaze of Menoth helps keep troops packed in around the Avatar for further Blazing Effigy goodness (it also keeps them from running away, to ensure maximum damage during the feat turn). As others have stated, the fact that it generates its own focus also makes it useful for Feora.

Other than that, there's nothing you really absolutely need to take. The Devout is good, any flameguard units are good (I'm personally a big fan of Cleansers and Daughters), etc... but the army is generally just a Feora delivery system.

pFeora is a great assassination caster, so she needs things that can punch holes in opponent lines so she can make her run

the Vanquisher is a great jack for her because of Thresher and the 4" AOE on its ranged attack; the Repenter is another great jack choice because of the flamethrower

as for troops, I like Bastions, KE, Daughters, and Cleansers with her, as the Daughters are a great counter assault unit, the Bastions and KE are beasts in CC, and the Cleansers are a good all around close in unit now because in the Incinerate order...

but, as has been said before, pFeora doesn't have any troop choices that do not work with her...just about any troop can work with her, but, as I said, I like using the harder hitting things to punch holes open...

I only have pFeora, and from playing a lot with her, I have found that anything can really work well with her; she is very simply a caster that operates independently of her army.

I usually bring min choir, the Avatar, and at least one vassal as auto includes.

I would highly suggest Saxon Orrick now, since he gives Feora (and the rest of your army) pathfinder.

I often bring a devout with her, and my infantry force will often consist of mac Bastions and Knights Exemplar. The TFG is good for delivering, but with pFeora's feat being an amazing infantry killer, I usually end up taking an army of heavy hitters, and Bastions can also help deliver in the same manner.

I like two heavy jacks with her, since I often brick up with choir denial, but usually Ibring the second heavy if I have the points left over.

Try to keep Feora camping her focus; she doesn't really need to cast any spells until the assassination run. If you have the insight, cast ignition on Feora the turn before assassination; but she usually does not need it.

Wracks and the heirophant are hood for refilling after Engine of Destruction.

Good luck, hope this helps.

A good read, but I would suggest a repenter with her; it's a Jack that does amazing wit choir, and even better with a vassal (although it is anti-infantry, which is what her feat is for, it is focus effecient because it needs none.)
