THAT! IS! SOME OF THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD IN A WHILE! I hope you do play, Mika.

I will most likely be there playing Cryx. Or Mercs, but most likely Cryx.

I, for one, will be VERY glad to have both of you there. Once we get a bit closer to the event, I will put up a list of confirmed (and semi-confirmed, *cough-Mika-cough*) players. :)

Lies I say! LIES!! ;)

I will try to be there. No tier lists make me sad, I was totally going to Darius all over people. Guess you'll have to settle for Kara Sloan instead.

LOL! Hey Mike - I told you it won't be done in an hour. Yet you had to put it in there :-) I guess I will have to paint the squire then..

Mika - Don't sweat it! Remember that we live in Los Angeles... where "I'll be there in 5 minutes" really means "you'll have to wait about 45 minutes for me, depending on traffic" LOL. The "about an hour" refers to the time between the start point of the painting clinic and the beginning of the game play (11am-12:00pm). :)

Yeah - worst comes worst I will be painting alongside the games so people can check out during the time.

Hey - do you guys want me to bring other completed minis as well so that you can ask specific questions about them as well?

We need to get Ross to come up from SD once he gets back from Templecon. :)

Please see the first message for a change to the Tiers ruling based on Privateer's & PPS_DC's official statement on tiers. All official events must allow tiers to be utilized. Tiers WILL be allowed for this event.

I didn't know you felt so strongly about Ross... jeez. lol. J/K.

While I have my own feelings about the tier system at this point in the release cycle, I do have to follow the official rules. I am sure that it will be a fun event either way! :)

Yay tiers! I may just run Darius after all. Is this going to be steamroller format?

Caster kill = win condition.

Awwww. I really prefer Steamroller over straight up caster kill. We should at least do kill box .

I don't know what P.P. is thinking?!?!? Tiers should not be used in co-hordes/warmachine games. It's not like warmachine armies need MORE f'n help to stomp hordes armies! :( This garbage really makes me wonder what the rule-makers there are thinking or rather aren't thinking!

LemmingStampede

Have you even looked at the tiers? It's widely agreed upon that the benefits granted aren't worth the restrictions placed on model restriction. At best, they're almost as good as a regular list. Some of them aren't even close to being as competitive.

msherman31781
02-14-2010, 06:41 PM
Although my initial reaction was similar to yours, Markus, after looking over the documents and PP's ruling on this, utilizing tiers (given the restrictions inherent in these) does not appear to provide a significant competitive advantage over using a tooled out standard list.

Obviously, some tier lists will have better match ups than others... just as some standard lists have better match ups vs. some lists than others. However, over the course of a large enough sample of games vs. random casters, I would wager that the "better" player, whatever that means, will win their share of games whether they are running a standard or tier list.

All in all, it should be a lot of fun and I hope to see everyone there supporting their favorite WM or Hordes faction by spilling the most enemy guts & gears possible.

Sorry guys,

I'll be out of town that weekend and will miss the tournament.
Let me know when the next event will be held.
Hope you get some good pictures of the fighting.

I'm curious why PP would allow tier lists when only a few of the army books for WARMACHINE and NONE of the army books for HORDES have been released yet.

msherman31781
02-14-2010, 10:09 PM
Sorry to hear you'll miss this one Bill. Hope to get a few games in with you soon!

As for the official stance on tier lists... please reference my post above and read on below....

The official stance is, to paraphrase PPS_DC:

1) Players are not required to use tier lists.
2) Tier lists are not required in order to have a competitive army list.
3) Theme forces are an official tournament-legal option available to players.

As an aside, the Forces of Warmachine books are being released in a sequence determined by Summer Rampage results. Factions who placed at the top get to utilize their theme lists sooner than those who didn't do as well. Ultimately, each army will have it's own set of tiers to utilize to build fun, fluffy, and competitive armies. If game design works out, I highly doubt that tier lists will be MORE competitive than non-tiered lists constructed utilizing a broader range of options to wreck your opponents face.

If someone is wanting to utilize a tier list SUPER bad, I can volunteer my mercenary army (pMagnus or eMagnus). Just let me know with plenty of time to spare so that we can plan to make this happen. First come, first served.

I am sad to inform you folks I will not be attending. A sudden trip to Ohio to deal with my storage space I shared with my (now) ex-fiancee needs to happen. I leave Monday, but scheduling means I will be out of town in the A.V. on Sunday. I hope you guys have a wicked good time!!!

I hope you guys don't want to hit me in the :Eyeless-Sight: with a :Construct: or :Open-Fist: or want to :Gunfighter: me

Well, I must say that although a number of our regulars were not able to make it, it was a great event with some new faces and all 8 people who played had a blast! Hopefully more people can make it out for the next one and we can have a record showing!

Placing:

1st - Jin Sigimoto- Highborn
2nd - Mike W. - Cryx
3rd - John Liao - Retribution

Honorable Mention - Goes to David Willis (playing Cryx) for coming out to a new venue and playing in a competitive tournament environment after being involved in the Warmachine/Hordes hobby for only 1 month. Was great to have you come out and hope to see you again soon!

It was awesome gaming with everyone!

Jin - Gorten
Mike W. - pGoreshade
John - not sure... some nimble elf that kills stuff
Dave - Terminus / pDenny

And Tim... you missed 3 cryx players... Brent dusted off his stuff and played as well (pDenny + 24 bile thralls + other goodies).

HUGE Thank you to Mike W. and David Willis for lending some of their Cryx cards to one of our players who had not yet had the time to upgrade to MK2. I really appreciate the community we've got!
