Yo people! Just click on the link to my blog to see all the pics!!!11!!

Well, if you have read till this, my congratulations :D

To start, sorry for the bad english, not my first language!

I have bought an used pirates army (well, "used" is an hard word, some assembly done and everything bare metal, so very good conditions to work on ^^ ), so between one commission and another i have started to work on the models!

To start, here are the bases i have done till now! The big one for a freebooter, the medium for the buccaneer and the other 10 for the sea dog crew! The front arcs are gonna to be marked after the assembly of models on them.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2mjw2d.jpg

Everything is hand made or bits of various sorts, i'm not so much into pre-made resin bases.
The main theme behind them is a sort of volcanic seashore, where many ships have crashed, a sort of ships-cemetery. The two bases with the cobblestone are to link the army to the models not strictly pirates that i will acquire in future (kayazy for Fiona, or maybe adding ashlynn and her troops) that will have a such kind of bases, to have them pair well with every other model, but without have to give to them a strict piratesque connotation.

Then, the bread and butter of every pirates army, the Sea Dog Crew!

http://i42.tinypic.com/sxzo1h.jpg

Nothing too strange, i just wanted them to look also a bit dirty and...mmm.."worn off"? A common theme to keep in the army, so rust and battle damages!

And what a better way to test both this damaged style along with the paint scheme of the jacks? So here's the little one, the buccaneer!

PICS OF THE BUCCANEER IN THE NEXT POST

So, i'm quite sure many of you have a question now...

"You have the bases done, and the models done, why are the models not on their bases?".

Well, simple and sad answer...it's frigging cold here now... not cold like a really cold place, but still much more cold than the italian average... giving the spray sealant in the open would probably lead my models to look dipped into molten sugar...so i have to wait till we get at least some degrees over 0 C°. The buccaner otherwise has been already sprayed, before the winter has come for real here...

Finished for now, thanks for watching, C&C always welcomed ^^

Working on the bases for some casters and for the solos now, while waiting the pieces for convert the two nomads for Shae!

Wow, those are sweet! Sadly, I was so impressed by the fantastic bases that I found it hard to appreciate the models at first glance. But they rock, too!

Good idea i hope ^^ Wanted to do it since the beginning, but the site i used to upload the pics seemed to show them blank when i tried to use the IMG tag.
Uploaded in a different place and fixed :D

And i also add a WIP of the next batch of bases:

That's a great idea for a basing theme. Too bad, I started already with basing my pirates on wooden planks.

I really like how you broken up the colors and made then not have the same color scheme, makes them look more like a group of guys that got together to be pirates.

An Update! :D

Second block of bases, finished!

A couple of Chars for the Sea Dog Mob, with them starting to grow in size and efficacy!

Nomad in the next post, since images limit reached!

And the first of the two Nomads, obviously modified and converted to a non tourney-legal level!

It's based on a Cygnar jack. I have added some tubes and changed the exhaust, to resemble a sort of "middle chain ring", with the old boiler on a newer chassis.

A small update! The base for the nomad and another of the Fabulous 4 solos!

Even if she seems to receive lots of hate on the net, i really love the Hawk model, so it has been a real fun to paint her!
Unluckily this time not very good photos...they makes everything looks shiny even if it's not in real!

After the pic the nomad received the front arc marked too!

Pointed out in the first post, everything hand made, using bits of various kind, from PP line, naval modellism or plain scratch! :D

I simply love base-making, i think that people often underestimate how a good base could improve a miniature's overall, often with a very little effort!

Sorry, I totally missed the text in your first post as I was drooling over your cool bases! :o I love basing as well and think that a good base can make a good miniature even better!

I really like the conversions you did on both of the jacks. If only you had used the legs from a Nomad, you would actually satisfy the conversion rules, but i would let you use it anyway.

I'm sure you will have no problems using that Nomad conversion in a tournament, looks great buddy.

Wasn't that intrigued when I saw the beginning of this thread (photos of the bases) but this is a really nice army dude. Its good seeing a little cohesion to a pirate force too with the colours you have used. Really love seeing people put effort into all the extra little things, well done!

Thx to both :D

Well, i already have the "Tourney army", so pirates are mainly designed to be played the evening 35p games or in the 35p tourney, that here are usually quite "light", like the beneficence christmas tourney, or the beer&sausages summer tourney, so i'm not afraid of not being able to play my nomads.

So, time for an update! I finally managed to finish the other Nomad for the Shae's list! This time with an heavier conversion, and a lot less tourney legality XD

Well, to cut this, here the pics :D

Holy crap that Pirate Nomad is absolutely awesome. I am not ashamed to say I will have to do something similar when I start mMercs back up again after league. That is, if you're okay with that haha

Lol thx, well, nothing against it XD I'm the first to have get lot of inspiration from this forum! And yay for more Pirates steam robot around!

Everything made from scratch for the bases, or using pre-existant bits (anchor, barrels, etc etc) but no resin pre-made bases!

The wood planks are actually what they really looks like, wood planks XD Just more or less an appropriate size for a 28mm ship! :p Cut from lath picked in a naval modelilsm shop!

I think I might have to yoink a bit of the pirate nomad's idea if I ever expand my mercs beyond my Damiano list. Really awesome.
