Hey everybody,
I played Warmachine way back when the game first released, and my primary faction was cygnar. However I drifted away from Privateer Press and gaming in general, but now I'm back, and I decided on the motherland.

I've yet to play a MkII game yet, and do plan on picking up the khador faction deck soon, but I could use a little help coming up with a good starting list( which, er...would be 25 points I fathom?)

I'd like to theme it around what I have so far:
Vlad (regular or epic, i have both)
berserker
1 plastic khador jack( I haven't decided what I'm going to make out of it).

So basically with those in mind, what would be a good starter list?

So I finally scored the faction deck from my flgs. Heres a starter (25pt) list. I could use a little advice, I'm essentially new to the game

P/E Vlad: Vlad is my chosen caster, but I'm not sure which to go with +5
War Dog: 1
Berserker: 6
Destroyer: 9
Doom Reavers leader and 5 grunts: 6
Fenris:5
Manhunter: 2
total: 24pts

What do ya guys think?

if your playing pvlad you dont really need the dog since you have blood of kings and you can upgrade to the manhunter for 2 points. Just an idea to fill it out, also if you using vlad drago is always nice, he the only caster he works with but he works really well with him.

You could try the following:

Vlad (-5)
* Berserker 6
* Decimator 9

Doom Reavers 6
Widowmakers 4
Iron Fang Pikemen (min) 5

With this you have the whole proper army feel going which Vlad loves and it's also a balanced force that can deal with a lot of things and gets a lot of mileage out of S&P if you don't feel like smashing face personally with Vlad. Ideally you want the full unit of IFP with the UA but you can expand there once you move to 30+ points.

edit: you can also swap in eVlad for pVlad with this list easily.

Cons: pikemen and widowmakers could get scared by Doom Reavers, place them accordingly. It's also somewhat monetarily expensive being infantry heavy, and there are some, shall we say, design problems with the pikemen models (i.e. the pikes themselves).

So I got in a few games today and figure I'd give a little report. Both were against my buddy's cygnar, a Haley list with some long gunners and an assortment of jacks

My first list was thus:
EVlad
-Berserker 6
-destroyer 9
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 grunts) 6
Fenris 5
yuri 3
manhunter 2
(26)

I won this game, but barely. An early game mistake left vlad open for a thunderous charge from an ironclad, which laid him so close to death (2 health box) it was worrisome. Yet, he recovered, and with the aid of the destroyer, took out the iron clad. His berserker hulked out on a lancer, though ultimately exploded. My Doom Reavers went toe to toe with a cyclone and beat each others head in more or less. However, the real action was with Fenris. He tore up the right side of the board into a pack of long gunners, and made quick work of them. With one gunner left, he blitzed it into haley and quickly dispatched the poor caster.

Game two was similar to game one, couple of swaps
eVlad
-Drago 8
-Juggernaught 7
Doom reavers 6
Fenris 5
Manhunter 2
Yuri 3
26

My opponent tagged the cyclone out for a defender. My first game I really stretched my force into a long line, spanning the whole board. This game I kept clumped and powered toward the enemy. His defender and long gunners made quick work of my doom reavers. As Yuri lunged out of the forest he caught a bullet from the defender as well--killing the poor bastard. Drago brought up the right and snuck into the defenders back arc. My Juggy danced around Vlad and prevented a clear charge line from the ironclad. Fenris, like one of the horsemen of the apocalypse, eyed an overly exposed haley near the rear of his force. He swiftly rode down the hills he perched upon and into combat with the ill placed caster. Again, Fenris made short work of her.

Heres what I learned so far:

Some things I dug
First, I reaaaaly like vlad, especially eVlad. His bonuses from being damaged keep me motivated to be a little ballsy (or foolish) with him, and I enjoy being on that edge of too aggressive and too passive. In short, the man is a pimp. Second, Fenris is a beast. This guy is a guided psycho-missile of *** kicking potential.

A note on jacks
While I love the regular berserker, Drago's immunity to explosion while with Vlad is extremely handy (seeing as how easily the regular berserker can cook off). The juggy I sadly never got into combat, but that p+s 19, 7 point jack looks pretty gnarly. That being said, the destroyer was pretty handy as well.

Units, and why I want more
I'm really understanding now why Iron Fang pikemen were reccommended to me, The potential with Vlad is awesome, and definitely worth it. They will be my next purchase. In these games--seeing as how i was relatively bereft of shooting--I seriously lusted for some widowmakers, and definitely plan on adding them to the force.

However, I could still some advice: what other units work well with vlad? I had eyed the assault kommandos. What about Warjacks? I have 1 plastic jack I'm going to assemble, and then hopefully I'll magnetize the second...but what other jacks should I consider? My solos were nice, but definitely seemed like they were a little out of place in the list, and didn't jive with the rest of the force. Any ones in particular I should be looking at?

Thanks everyone!
