I think those are the most important things a beginner should know. If this is not what you’re looking for than we can talk more about very specific techniques like washes, glazes, shading, highlighting etc. Also, I’m still in the El Paso area and would love to game with you guys but I don’t know when you play anymore and your always welcome to join me to paint and I can demonstrate and teach you in person.

3. Get a good light for your paint desk! Ottlight (I think that is how you spell it) is the best IMHO because they give off light that is in the same spectrum as day light, but they can be kind of expensive. I prefer two lights for my desk but one good light will do just don’t mix bulb types i.e. one normal bulb and one day light bulb.
4. Last but not least, paint…you have to paint and you have to try things that will mess you miniatures up. If you mess paint job up you can always strip the miniature and start again. This sucks cause of the time investment but I like it because I improve.

WitchKing! It’s good to hear from you, it has been a long time. Thanks for the comments on Caine. As far as painting goes I have been doing it along time, but the best advice I can give you is to look for examples of other peoples work on the model you’re working on and try and emulate it. I also read everything I could get my hands on regarding miniature painting and there is a lot out there right now. Here are some basic tips on miniature painting:
1. Always....ALWAYS thin your paints you will have to experiment to find what consistence you like your paint. The consistence of your paint also depends on what you’re trying to achieve. You wouldn’t thin your base coat as much as you would if you where building up highlight layers
2. Use good paints! I prefer Vallejo paints; both model color and game color are great. I feel they are really the best paints you can buy but many people prefer GW brand or P3, and both of those are good too.

Just FYI. We've started the Blasted Heath league. It's three weeks long, so stop by Sun City Games sometime on Wednesdays and Saturdays and get your games in or whenever someone else wants to get a game or two in. It lasts until June 26th, and on that day we'll try and have a final game event.
