    Default Dalth's Portable Folding Table

These pics are of my complete folding table it is the second folding table I have built. The first was designed to unfold onto a table and was quite heavy. This one was meant to be light, portable, and have legs it is light enough for my wife to carry and she is on the smaller size.

    Closed Table:

    Closed with cap/handles removed:

Opened & tilted to show under side:

Opened upright (5'8" wife added for scale):

I particularly like the way the latches for the center support and the handle worked out.
When closed the latches attach to the handle board to hold it on:

When open the sides of the latches on the board attach to each other to add support for setting up the table:

The table is a little shorter I had to cut the folding legs shorter to fit them in the table then it folds and closes. But it worked out nicely because you can set in a normal chair and see the table and move your models without standing the whole game.

    Construction
The top is 1/8" MDF and frame is 1x3" whiteboard except for the support under the leg supports they are 1x2". Basically the frame is screwed in with M8 x 1 1/4" wood screws the holes were pre-drilled with a #8 counter sink all boards were wood glued before mounting them. The top is attached with wood glue and 5/8" brads. I found out that being liberal with the wood glue on the boards supporting the legs is a great idea found that out when I swung the leg open on one side hard the board pulled up, added a nice amount of glue and a few more brads and it was as good as new. I may end up doing pocket holes if I can get a jig but without one it is a bad idea.

I framed my table with a slight recess for the to allow for my next project. I plan to make 2' x 2' terrain inserts to set on top of my table. I plan to make several repositional pieces with different themes, winter, desert, mountain, etc.

Thanks to Pake for the idea for the under table support idea.

There are more pics here. Including a good shot of the under side.

That's very well made, and I love the folding legs. How stable are they? It's kind of hard to tell how far apart the feet are from the photos.

Thanks, the folding legs are on complete opposite sides of the table so about 4' from each other the width on the legs on either side are about 2' they are a set of folding legs like you would find for a banquet table. Here is a link to the exact ones I got. The table is very stable and is very solid feeling despite the lightweight build.

Gimmeh. I want one. I don't have enough room for a persistent table.

I have about half a dozen requests at my FLGS to built people one. I told them I would build them one if they want to pay from the materials and a little for the time. If I do end up building anybody one I'll do a step-by-step tutorial on how I built it. I didn't have the foresight to talk WIP pics the first time. I wanted to but I wanted it built more.

Very nice! I should do this, since my table has been stuck in our garage since moving to a smaller place.

I'm think of doing an ultra light design that won't have legs and will go over an existing table.

I did something like this for about $30 and a few hours of work. Remember to cover the bottom with felt or something to prevent scratching the table.
