Okay, I hope this isn't old enough to be thread necromancy, but I have to ask how do you get that purple dusting on the shoulder pads? I'm just starting ret having only painted about 1k worth of spacey elvies in another game, so I'm shopping around for some scheme ideas, and to tell you the truth I still consider myself pretty new at painting. Is that some kind of airbrushing to get that effect?

Oh, and how do you get that glowing effect coming off of the gems/lines/open palms of mages that I see in so many ret schemes?

In the new No Quarter they have a pretty cool example of camo ret.

For the power line glow what I do is take 2 drops of the turquoise ink 3 drops of mixing medium then water it down pretty thin. Then I dab it into the cracks with a fine brush. It takes a couple coats generally but the little that gets around the edges makes a nice glow effect.

I forgot about this thread, but I finally got around to basing my models, so here they are, painted and based.

@Rampaging Elk - Dude, your colour scheme and mine are VERY similar. I'd KILL for your definition on the glows, though

    Speaking of which...

    DODGY PICTURE TIME!

I'm sorry for both the shocking quality of the pictures AND the painting...

I really tried to do black and blue as my scheme but I just couldn't get the right blue and the black always looked flat for me.

I went blue and silver. Pig iron = best silver shade ever IMO.

@Chip, I thought I was the only one doing the dark black metal with bright blue highlights, but I'm glad to see it can look at least as good when someone else does it! All I did was wash in the arcane blue for the highlights, though. I made my own wash with a mixing medium and P3 Arcane Blue. The model detail did all the real work for me. Love how some of yours, particularly the Halberdiers, look like they are from Tron

@joelker41, I'd like to see yours. I love the way my black turned out, though. It's the easiest painting I've EVER done. I spray painted a base coat of black, then took my Polished Silver color and made it into a glaze-type wash with plenty of mixing medium, then slopped it on over the base coat. If I have to go back and reclaim any parts, I just have to use black and it looks perfect 90% of the time without needing anymore of the silver glaze.

Your way sounds... Easier than mine. On pretty much all fronts My glow's GW Ice Blue, and the black's Chaos Black (painted caarefully round the blue), highlighted with Necron Abyss then Enchanted Blue!

Also, do you get people taking this piss out of you for "just playing with primed minis" too?

That is some incredible blending, Seventhprophet! Looks very nice.

Finally got some decent pictures of mine, so here they are. Another black army, but green is clearly far superior to blue so I used it instead. :-p

Thanks! I debated for a long time before attempting it, but I think they came out really well. Each one is better, too - compare the Banshee to the Phoenix. Really the hardest part was getting the white to cover on the black without getting chunky.

I keep wondering what to attempt on Hyperion, same but bigger, or try some new designs ... ?

Nah, not really. The glaze makes them look painted enough. And if they were to complain, I'd show the eyes I've painted on Garryth, Vyros and the Arcanists. Well... EYE on Vyros.

Seventhprophet, yours looks like a much better-done version of mine, even with the autumn bases.

I went for a red scheme also simply using Dragon Red spray and black wash and blue for the underglow effect but also Japanese writing still having trouble to find some symbols for Manticore and Hydra atm but i was thinking of using Serpent/Snake for Hydra not suer yet for Manticore lol

I really am a big fan of the white. Looks so pure and gives a stark contrast to the rest of the stuff around it.
