Default Insider 3-15-2012 aka Why A Lot of PP Poses Look So Similar

There was a thread awhile back asking if PP had run out of poses and had a bunch of different models in the same poses. I think the new insider explains this phenomena.

I was thinking the same thing while reading it. Obviously it makes things easier for the sculptors, as well as keeping size more consistent - maybe they got tired of the B13 jibes?

You know they aren't cast in those positions, right?

If two models end up in the same pose, it's because both were bent into it individually.

I won't lie... that job looks terribly easy.

Like making dudes out of pipe cleaners. I could do that.

Last year at Lock and Load Brian D showed us some of his armatures and showed us how he poses them. The thing is, organic bipedal beings only have so many areas of movement and they want to do dynamic poses. It just happens to make some look like each other sadly.

I've seen those types of armatures before, very similar to the ones I have. Brian had made several armatures; male, female, large creature etc. He even made a few with more "bulk up" than the ones I used, but those can be a bit difficult to pose without breaking them.

I really prefer the pre-cast armatures to using wire, it saves some time.

I thought this was going to be a spoiler that the next faction would be the French...

    That's so mean!

... but I suppose it might not be entirely far off either. Part of the reason I've never been a fan of a Llaelese faction. Highborn may be cool, but the actual Llaelese government was pretty dim...

The poses on PP minis that I've actually been upset about have been the studio poses on the plastic warjacks.

I figure that the studio just wanted to use the most basic pose possible, so that they wouldn't one-up all of the creative modelers out there (compare their X-Juggernaut to all of the crazy things you can do with it).

Using pre-made armatures is very common in the industry. And making an armature is one of the more uninteresting parts of sculpting (and unfortunately it is also a place where you can screw up everything pretty easily).
