Default First army - Supreme Aptimus Zaal 35 & 50 pts lists

    Hello

I am really new to warmahords and don?t really have a firm grasp of the game yet. I have played 2 teaching games so far and watched the learn to play war machine video from mini wargaming. I want to put my 35/50 pts Skorne lists up for review.

I wanted to make a soul themed list. It also just happened to be that the list was eligible for Immortal Host tier 2. I have already bought most of these models but Paingiver Beast Handlers and Siege Animantarax. Here the lists, any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    35pts:

    Warlock:
    Supreme Aptimus Zaal & Kovaas = W.B.P +5pts , Fury 7

    Solos:
    Ancestral Guardian = 3pts
    Hakaar the Destroyer =4pts

    War Beast:
Titan Gladiator 8pts or Titan Sentry 9pts
    Titan Bronzeback =10pts

    Units:
    Karax Unit x 10 = 6pts
    Immortals x 10 = 8pts

    50 pts:

    Warlock:
    Supreme Aptimus Zaal & Kovaas = W.B.P +5pts , Fury 7

    Solos:
    Aptimus Marketh = 3pts
    Ancestral Guardian = 3pts
    Hakaar the Destroyer =4pts

    War Beast:
    Titan Gladiator = 8pts
    Titan Sentry = 9pts
    Titan Bronzeback =10pts

    Units:
    Paingiver Beast Handlers x 6 = 3pts
    Karax Unit x 10 = 6pts
    Immortals x 10 = 8pts

*I also like the idea of cutting the Titan Gladiator for the Siege Animantarax

    Hello

I have seen that a bunch of people have looked at this. I would really like to know if I am on the right track with these lists or not. Critics and considerations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for looking.

    Those look great so far.

Now, I usually don't rock any heavies in my 35pt t3 list, but one is always good. You can drop the BB for a cyclopes of your flavor (brute for defense, savage for assassination) and that gives you 5 points to play with. I would personally go for an extoller and another AG myself.

At the 50pt level, I don't think the PGBH are in tier. They are a great unit and you will want them in 80% of your lists but not really needed in a tier Zaal list.

    Thank you for your reply

I am not really planning on making a tier list or anything. It more just turned out that one of lists was tier legal.
    and another AG myself.
I do like the idea of getting another Ancestral Guardian in my list

Our local players keep saying that I need to get some Paingiver Beast Handlers. They keep saying how almost all skorne list have them. Why would you say they are unneeded for a Zaal list and what would you use instead?

What do you think of the Siege Animantarax ?

For a Zaal Tier, you usually run rather beast light. Which of course means the PGBH are not required. Your AG's + Kovaas do most of your heavy lifting.

Jury is still out on the SA though, I really want it to be useful, but like most people, cant see its worth yet for the cost of any of our titans.

So I have played two games with my list so far. The first was against Khador with The Butcher of Khardov. It wasn't close at all, he hit Zaal in one hit for 35 lol. The second was against Cygnar with Captain E. Dominic Darius. The game was crazy close, at the end of the game we both only had our casters left. I failed to kill his due to one bad roll and then he killed me on his turn. It was a great game, I was happy with the out come.

    Hey Khasekhemwy,
I am a long-time Zaal fan and I used to play him religiously. He is easily oneof our top 3 warlocks (in my opinion) and could potentially wreck most otherlists.

A couple of notes to remember when playing him:

Last Stand will add an ADDITIONAL dice to your attack and damage rolls. Easily his best spell and if used correctly can end the game pretty soon with caster kills. Remember that you can still boost afterwards. A Cyclops Savage charging with Last Stand up will be pushing 4 attacks at P+S 15(with Pain Givers) 3d6 to hit and 3d6 damage 4 on the charge. You?ll be killing average heavies with your 5 pt light. Again, the model is destroyed by this (it does not provide souls but will count towards feat)

His ability to spend one fury and give all his AG?s a soul is extremely powerful and I even played around with a few 35 pt zaal lists that did not involve anything but Immortals and Ags for infantry. By the third turn, your Ags all have 3 souls and are ready to eat anything.

I?ll provide my Tier 4 for Zaal.

    Zaal +5
    Kovaas
    3x Cyclops Savage 15
    Titan Gladiator 8
    2x AG 6
    3x Extoller Soulward 6
    Hakaar the Destoryer 4
    6 Immortals 5
    6 Immortals 5
    10 Praetorian Swordsmen 6
Three Cyclops Savages for potential Last Stand + Feat tocaster kill or wreck heavies. Also, I?ll trade my 5 point light for your 9-11point heavy any day. Gladiator is there for extra speed and pathfinder and todo some slamming if necessary. AG and Hakaar for, well killing stuff andpossible assassin vectors. Immortals are just such an awesome unit. I use 6 manunits to grab tier and because they can double dip with Last Stand. Put Last Stand on Immortals and upkeep it. The enemy charges them and kills a few, theythen activate in your maintenance phase and move 3 inches and whack somethingwith Last Stand. They then activate during your turn and again charge stuff andkill them dead. At the end of your turn pick up models that attacked that turnand use them for feat!

This turned out to be a lot longer than I expected. If you have any more questions hit me up and I?ll go over more via IM.
    Stay Thirsty,
    Dommer01
