I recently read a thread concerning the surprising lack of IK fanart out there and I have to say it really struck a chord with me. The Iron Kingdoms is a pretty fantastic setting, that offers a lot of themes, races and characters to be explored. So that's what I'm going to do.
Let me preface this thread by saying that once upon a time I was considered (by some) to be quite talented in terms of artistic ability. However that was then and this is now. I haven't done any serious drawing in almost nine years. But I recently came to the conclusion that drawing was one of the things absent in my life that I missed the most. So, after getting a little dough back from the government this tax season, I bought myself an Intuos 5 digital sketchpad... which I installed today: March 24th.
They say every artist needs insipiration. So I've decided to start working the dumb out of my hands using the Iron Kingdoms as my guide. Between Hordes and Warmachine, Shifting Stones & Dire Troll Maulers I should have my fill of hard edged, mechanika & sinewy, scaley musculature to paractice with. Right now I'm keeping it simple. Simple angles. Simple Concepts. Simple Sketches. But I'm going to share them with any folks that care enough to peruse this page. Feel free to comment and more importantly: critique!
I'm currently using Autodesk Sketchbook Express 2011. It's a simple little program, but it's serving its purpose thus far.
I guess that's as good an intro as you'll get out of me. I hope to update this thread at least once a week, but life, as I'm sure you know, is always full of surprises.
