Default Cygnar Table sporting railway and docks

Water, earth, wood, stone and steel. It is the combination of different materials that makes a gaming table great. We up in the frozen north have a gaming convention coming up in june and I'm trying to get a table finished which mixes all those surfaces.

Framing 4 mm plywood in L-shaped moulding and with some lightweight plates for shower framing (like giant sized foamboard) I hope to achieve a stabe table.

For surface material. The Croatian firm Tabletop World has the best stone terrain there is on the market, using real dressed stone for their projects.

German Thomarillion are also good on gaming terrain. Windows and doors saves work. As does some steampunky turbine and damp machine.

I also got some resin pieces from the american garage firm Rusty Rail producing terrain for narrow gauge O scale entusiasts. The details are suprisingly crisp and reasonably prized too.

The shopping continues. The package from The Warstore arrived. Good old factory ...

And I finally got my claws on one of the bridges famous from Poppabear's truly epic table.

Rails are bought from PECO - O scale flexible track, 3' long seem to fit nicely.

My first challenge was making a rail junction, as the ready made are hillariously expensive. With some cutting, filing and fitting it was possible to go from this

    to this

For a competition over at Terragenesis i decided to make the junction workable. And with some more cutting and gluing it was possible to get up with this sollution.

The weel is turnable moving the two gears and the rail.

So far most of the rail is in place - nailed, glued and spackled to the board to stick. But still remains the canal, rail bridge and docs etc. etc. So much to do, and I just sit here on the internet...

That switch is sweet. I know some model railroad guys that scratch build their stuff that would say the same thing.

@ Pake: Your own table has been a great inspiration. You're not living en the vicinity of Helsinki, are you? I'm hitting the city this summer and wonder where Warmachine & Hordes are played.

Looking forward of seeing how this table will come around. Did you buy a bunch of those Tabletop World stoneworks or are you planning on casting the stuff?

Sorry, mate. I live up the coast in Wasa. You should contact Mordjinn for some WM/H action in Hellsinki.
Oh, and make that table portable so you can take it with you!

In order to get some Warmachine action here in Helsinki I'd contact a local gaming club which organizes Warmachine nights. It's members only (I'm not a member, although I might join at some point), but probably you could drop them a mail and ask if it possible to guest star on one of their Warmachine nights. Their webpage is at http://www.nopat.fi/ . I don't want to share contact emails here (you can find them from under "7. Liity mukaan" from the top menu), but if you're interested PM me and I can help you out.

How about some updates on the table project mate!?

    A small progress shot:

I've mixed the spakle with paint before using it to the surface to avoid white spots from wear and tear. After applying I stipple it with a moist brush to remove any telltale marks revealing it as spakle. All hints as to which materials that are used, tend to break the illution that miniature terrain is all about.

Looks great! I've always wanted to do an Khadoran Railyard as a gaming table. Seems like O scale is the perfect scale for Warmachine.

    Small update.
    Testet colours and scatter.

Closeup of the railway. I think the grinded rubber tires works fine as ballast. The rails ar painted with a mix of burnt umber and burnt sienna, while the sleepers are painted burned umber, drybrushed raw sienna and given a black wash. Looks flat in the pic though.

    Testing is complete:

And on to the next part: pimping the Pegasus bridge.
    Here's a concept

The boiler from the will be added on the stone coloumn with the weels on it. Chains will connect the lifting mechanism with the bridge.

Awesome stuff... so what rules would the railroads have? linear obstacles? rough terrain? or nothing.

@ sergeigen: There will be a train related campaign, so some rules will be in effect. The rules dude has not presented them in a comprehensible way yet, though.

The pimped up pegasus bridge is finished.

Fantastic looking table so far. I picked up a length of track for a mining table that I haven't used yet. Good to see that it's turning out well.

I just made myself a couple of engraving stamps from ginger cake cutters. The brickwork is engraved on foamcore with the cardboard on one side peeled off. There's a wip here

After a break due to Real Life, I've made some more progress on the Docks. Painting and flocking remains but all main structures are finished at last.

    More progress pictures here.

    Absolutely beautiful.

I love the details like the recesses for the canal gates, gravel at the canal entry and the use of the glue for the watersurface.
It will be great when finished.

Just one question, the current grass part is so sharp edged and rectangular, will this stay so?

Thanks Tee. I just finished that part early for a competition over at TerraGenesis. Those are great to give you that extra push to finish (parts of) your piece.

As Blutaxt spotted, the thing is finally finished. Here are some pics for this forum as well
