Default Stryker just doesn't care about your little tricks

Yesterday a friend of mine wanted to show me what he thought was a neat trick with eGoreshade. He explained that that particular caster was the worst Cryx caster in his opinion, but that he'd finally cracked the code and had a nice little trick with him that he wanted to try out.
I brought my eStryker list against him.

I won the dice roll and went first, moving everything very far up the field. Since he didn't have any shooting I actually ran up with Stryker.
Then he moved his entire army forward and I could smell the trick a mile away, he had his army composed of great units and a unit of mechanithralls standing way behind the rest of his dudes but within Goreshades control area. He used Goreshade to cast a couple of spells and charged forward, hiding him behind a fence and he had that content look on his face, saying "now you just need to kill some stuff, so I can Goreshade it back into being.
Then I overloaded with 2 dice, scoring a 9. Velocitied 6 up the field and charged Stryker who'd been +2'ed on charge from Runewood into Goreshades silly little face, killing him in two blows.
Silly game, but just goes to show that whatever your mighty game plan is, no matter how many dudes you can ressurect from the dead and put back into action there's just no escaping the wrath of gingerman

Um...so the player disregarded his threat range and died.
    Cool?

Not really actually. "Player loss due to not knowing a trick in the opponent army" is probably the number 1 cause of game loss in Warmahordes and hardly worthy of a new thread...

No Phantom...Stryker's velocity and charge is not a 'Trick'.
    It's simple threat range.

Gotta agree with Sanctjud, here. While it's true there are a lot of bad players out there losing to really obvious things--like melee with Stryker--that doesn't really recommend Styker unless you're planning to beat a bunch of bad players.

eStryker is fantastic, mostly because of his ability to put out a long-range, game-ending charge, but the fact remains that if your opponent tools up and let it happen turn two, your opponent let you win--likely because he's a bad player. And beating bad players doesn't make for compelling anecdotes.Stryker cares a lot more about other casters' "tricks" when the players playing them don't just hand him an obvious and easy win.

Yes! How dare he waste precious Internet space with a new thread. Let's instead dedicate this thread to something novel like how to fix trenchers.

Y'all need to ease off. I'm not going to nitpick a dude for having fun with eStryker (and Cygnar as a whole).
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

also apparently cryx player didnt use Sudden Death to setup a counter charging bodyguard for Goreshade...

also - the feat fuel unit is not really a "trick"... a bigger "trick" for eShade is taking nightmare, sticking him behind a building or forest, then casting Phantom Seeker on it, then charging through the terrain at something the opponent thought was safe.
This thread just got 20% cooler because of Rainbow Dash.

A better trick: Keep the caster 1000 miles away and apply Banes :3

I sorta think the point was missed here... while the boards certainly doesn't need another "OMG STRYKER SO COOL ZERK ALL CASTER" thread, I think the intention was to show that one-trick pony tactics aren't usually going to win it for a player, no matter how good it might seem.

Especially against Darth. But I agree with the OP, it takes more than learning how to feat to pull off a maneuver. I say well done to the OP, for showing his friend the error in his thinking and allowing him to put more thought into his lists.

That being said, someone figure out how to terminate Snipe-Feat-Go. That'd be a bangin' thread to post in.
    Fantastic avatar created by PG_Sanj!

I dunno, beating a one-trick pony with another one-trick pony isn't really a compelling argument against one-trick ponies.

That said, of course, neither Stryker nor Goreshade are actually one-trick ponies, but the author suggests that both were used as such in this particular game.

Im not even sure what the trick was that the eGoreshade player was trying to use. The models have to forfeit their actions when they come back. You cant use it to countercharge.

I thought most ppl play eGoreshade for his tier and constant bane returns... Why did he both to have mecanithralls in there?? As for eStriker you get out of his way or get ran over that's the name of the game with him.

Cryx are tough guys. Tough guys wear pink.

The title of this thread should be changed to "eStryker doesn't care about your little tricks that involve you placing your caster within 17" of him."

Fuel for Reanimator. Most eGoreshade lists include a chaff unit like Mechanithralls or Scrapthralls to swap out for destroyed Banes (/Pistol Wraiths/Warwitches/Soulhunters) on the feat turn.

Isn't that just general Cryx strategy, rather than a trick?

Not sure why everyone is hating on the OP. He had fun with a game and wanted to share it. I'd rather see positive threads like this than the constant whinefest threads that usually crop up on the Cygnar forum.

Are the haters more annoyed at the couple of minutes of life they'll never get back, or the precious internet space that the thread is taking up?

This space could have been used for pictures of cats!

Yeah, I enjoyed reading OP's story. It's always nice to hear success stories.

Indeed. I came to this thread specifically because the MS paperclip popped up telling me that this thread was taking up too much space on the internet and stopping me posting my latest cat-breading pics. Then I read the thread and decided it was a better use of the space.

To the OP, don't let the others get you down. It's always satisfying to throw a spanner in your opponents works. Keep it up, the Cygnus compels you!
