    Default MadJack's Cygnar Round-up

I thought I'd start a thread where I can document my painted Cygnar. It's nowhere near the scale of what people like Agamemnon have, but it's still a pretty decent-sized painted army. I probably won't do the same thing with my other factions, because each of my other factions is a mix of models painted by me, and models painted by other people (except for my Trollbloods, which are all painted professionally), whereas my Cygnar, being my first and primary faction, is entirely my own work. Well, with one exception, which I'll note below.

As I add new painted stuff I'll do close-up beauty shots of it to add to this thread, but for all of my existing stuff I'm not going to bother, so I'm doing group shots to start with.

To start it off, here is all of my painted Cygnar in its native environment:

Here are my painted casters (Seige, pCaine, pStryker, eStryker, pHaley, eHaley, pNemo, eNemo), and solos (6 Stormsmiths, 2 Squires, 2 Journeymen, Katherine Laddermore, Arlan Strangewayes, Maxwell Finn, Gun Mage Captain Adept, and Pendrake).

Here are all of my painted heavies (2 Stormclads, 2 Centurions, 2 Hammersmiths, 2 Defenders, 1 Cyclone, 1 Ironclad, 1 Ol' Rowdy, 1 Thunderhead), and my painted wreck markers (1 of these is the only model in my Cygnar painted by someone else - it was originally serving as the base for a painted Cryx jack that I got second hand).

And here are all of my painted lights (4 Lancers, 2 Hunters, 2 Fireflies, 1 Charger, 1 Sentinel, 1 Grenadier, 1 Thorn), and wreck markers.

These are my painted Storm Knights (2 units of Stormblades each with Officer, Standard, and 3 Storm Gunners, 2 minimum-size units of Storm Guard - I've got the models to bump these up to max units, but they're not painted yet).

And my painted Sword Knights (1 full unit plus Officer & Standard, and 2 minimum-size units - originally I just had the 2 min units, but when I decided I wanted to be able to field 2 full units, I just bought another full unit instead of 4 blisters of troops).

My Precursor Knights (full unit plus Officer & Standard - the bases are a different colour because they are Morrowan allies. I'm going to do the same with Gallant and Constance once I've painted them).

My painted Long Gunners (1 full unit + Officer & Standard, and 1 minimum-sized unit - I've got the models to bump this up to a max unit, but since I find these models so uninspiring to paint, it'll probably be a while before I paint them).

My painted Gun Mages (1 unit of Arcane Tempest Gun Mages + Officer, and the Black 13th).

And my painted Rangers & Trenchers (1 unit of Rangers, full unit of Trencher Infantry with Officer & Sniper, and 1 Grenade Porter, Trencher Chain Gun, and Trencher Cannon).

All of my Mechaniks (3 full units - many of these were painted as part of my Tale of Warmahordes for March).

My Zappy-Zappy-Lightning-Everywhere-Stuff (1 Storm Tower, 2 Storm Striders - the Storm Striders aren't actually completely done, as I've got a Trencher Master Gunner I'm painting up to go in the trench on the base of one, and a bunch of mercenary models I'm painting up to be in combat with the other one).

And that's it for now. Hopefully by the end of April I'll have at a minimum 3 more heavies to add to this thread.

Nicely done. I might consider a slightly more subdued tone for the bases, however. The bright yellow instantly draws the eye to the base rather than the model and holds it there. From a design standpoint you want your focal point to be on the model itself; typically the face when speaking in terms of miniatures.

Yeah, I've met some people who like the bases like that, and others who don't. I do a different set of colours for each faction (and several different ones for different types of Mercenaries). From a design standpoint, you're probably right, but I just like them that way. I couldn't really say why.

I've got a full unit of Storm Lances to go with Laddermore, but they're only partly basecoated at the moment. My plan is to have them next on the painting schedule after I've completed my 3 omni-jacks (which I expect to finish in the next couple of weeks). I don't know why, but I've found that I hate painting horses. It's funny, because the parts of the models that I hate painting (the horses themselves - not their armour plates, which I like painting) are actually the parts that I'm mostly done with already, and yet I've still had trouble getting myself motivated to finish them. This is why I need things like the Tale of Warmahordes challenge to keep me motivated to paint. I love painting, and yet somehow unless I've got an external motivation, I so rarely get anything done.

That display case is awesome. I'm totally jealous, how much for one of those?

I've got 2 of them (the other one is filled with Mercenaries and Trollbloods). They're from Ikea, and I seem to remember that they were pretty cheap, but about 6 months ago I looked into getting another one, and from what I can tell they discontinued them It's a shame, because very soon (probably within a month) I'm going to have to start taking over the second case with my Cygnar, which means more minis will be displaced to the shelves in the spare room.

Oh, and for the record, my display cases are mounted in my living room on either side of my TV, opposite the couch and the shelves above it that are full of Star Wars Lego. I fly my geek flag high!

Wow! Those are some sick paint jobs! Loving the collection, and I'm definitely inspired to paint my own stuff now!

Hello people of Caen. Look at your Warjack, now look at mine, now back to yours, now back to my mine. Sadly, it isn't mine, but if you stopped using coal and started using electricity, it could look like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're in Immoren! What's in your hand? I have it. It's a sword. Look again, THE SWORD IS NOW ELECTRIFIED! Anything is possible when you join Cygnar! I'm on a Storm Strider.
