    Default 15pt Rahn - First list. Comments?

    Hey guys. finally almost ready to get into my first real game, albeit only with 15 points. I wanted to know what the community thinks of this:

    Adeptis Rahn Shyeel* +6
    -Chimera* 6
    -Phoenix 10

    Arcanist 1
    House Shyeel Magister* 2
    House Shyeel Magister 2

    Units marked with * are things I currently own.

    So a couple of questions, first one on list construction:

    I could just go Rahn, Chimera, Phoenix, and HSBM. I've opted to go this way for 2 reasons. 1) Lower model count (kind of), and 2) I like having 2 solos to benefit from feat rather than 1 unit. Which list would you guys recommend? Are 2 Magisters too many?

    And a play question:

    Which 'jack should get the Arcanist most of the time? I've heard the Chimera, being a light, is a bit squishy and the Arcanist helps, but the Phoenix basically the tank here, and keep him up. The downside is he'll get caught in Combustion.

    Take out the chimera put in battle mages and whatever else.

    Once you have that you will have the core models rahn runs in your list

    15 points is really for learning the rules The game isn't really balanced at that level. Learn the game at 15 and then work your way up.

    Any particular reason for cutting the Chimera?

    Re: who gets the arcanist, I'd say the Phoenix. If the the Chimera is a lot squishier, so if your opponent wants to kill it he probably will. Also if you're running the Chimera into position to arc spells the arcanist will probably be too far away to do anything for it anyway.

    I honestly can't see combusting your own arcanist. Typically after turn 1 I activate the arcanist first, advance it towards the jack its supporting, do its thing, and then the jack advances and moves away to do its thing. The only time I could see your arcanist getting caught is if the Phoenix is engaged already and damaged enough to need repair and you can't move it away after getting repaired, but then combustion works even if you've only got one box left so there's no reason you can't combust first and then move in to repair.

    On the list itself, 2 magisters isn't too much IMO. I think I'd use either the Chimera or the HSBM, whichever you prefer. You're quite possibly going to use both with Rahn later, so maybe just get both now and try both versions (why not?). I think Murk suggested dropping the Chimera because he runs Rahn with 2 Phoenixes instead of a Phoenix and Chimera, which is definitely a good way to go when you've got the points for it - would prefer 2 Phoenixes to a Phoenix and Chimera as well.

    My plan is definitely to have access to 2 Phoenixes when I go to bigger point sizes. I've seen then in a lot of lists and, really, it only makes sense.

    Having never played minis wargames before, when it comes to battlefield tactics I'm going to be absolutely lost. All I really know is to have a plan for killing the caster. I know I'm going to keep my two 'jacks mostly apart from each other to increase the threat range of Rahn's spells, and that's about it. The Phoenix will definitely be running forward.

    Reason to cut the chimera is to get the battle mages into the list

    at 15 points you don't need two arcnodes and you already have the phoenix.

    I would go something like this
    Adeptis Rahn Shyeel (*6pts)
    * Phoenix (10pts)
    House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
    Arcanist (1pts)
    Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
    House Shyeel Magister (2pts)

    Or if you want to keep the whole Shyeel theme I have played this before it and it was fun
    Adeptis Rahn Shyeel (*6pts)
    * Phoenix (10pts)
    House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
    Arcanist (1pts)
    House Shyeel Artificer (3pts)
    House Shyeel Magister (2pts)

    Again as Murk has said its not a real balanced game at 15pt, you will trump hard or be trumped not much else to it
