    Default Potential for Beta Testing?

    Hey,

So I know I can geta group together that wants to go adventuring in the IKs. My question though is PP going to do a small beta/playtest for players prior to release of the actual books? Also, aside from just buying the books and setting up my own "intro to IKRPG" will PP be doing a small intro to the game for stores like Paizo does?

We haven't heard of any such plans at present. I'd say wait until we're a bit closer to GenCon to see what they decide to do.

I would doubt it, on both questions. If they do a beta test it will likely be through the Pressgangers, or possible some "encounters" like events at the cons.

A roleplaying game requires a different sort of playtesting than a wargame. In wargames balance seems to be the key issue and that lends itself well to a betatest, as there are a lot of different army compositions to test against a lot other army compositions. In a roleplaying game you can probably get away with a smaller group of testers, as its the balance between a few different character concepts and how easy the rules are to understand.
So from a intellectual property perspective, I'd say it's probably a better choice to do a smaller and more controlled test of a roleplaying game.

If PP had wanted to a beta test of the RPG, it probably would have been announced and started last year, seeing how the IKRPG is supposed to release at Gencon. 4 months doesn't really seem like enough time to beta test an entire rpg...

The first book is probably already at the printer or going through the final formatting to be sent to the printers at this point

If they print in China like every other mother-hubbard gaming company does these days, they'd better be well beyond post-press at this point. Better be in boxes in a container ready to go on the damn boat.

They print in China as well.

    It's noted in the books.

And for a Summer release they would be well into the Beta phase and probably wrapping it up.

What ever feed back they have received would need to collated clarified and then decisions made on whether or not to implement it.

RPG's do require extensive testing and checking. Most frequently to ensure that abilities don't stack in ways that were not intended and certain weapons or classes aren't ridiculous in comparison to others.

Last thing you want to be in a group is the character with the lame career/build/class and do nothing cool.

Actually it should be at the printers so that it allows for shipping time to get it out for launch time. I would expect them to start promoting it soon like with in the next month or so. I know that they have had articals in the NQ's recently, but I would expect teasers soon like artwork and maybe even some snippits from the book from various chapers. I believe that they did this with most of thier D20 book releases (but it started about 1 month before launch).
