I never played this RPG yet but will the new system be a re-telling of an old story or will all the fluff be add-ons to what we have out now?

The setting remains the same. They may advance the overall story a bit, but the setting/story is the same
Active PbP Characters:
Vyral: Hijinks on the High Seas
Oz: Fires Within
Jorgrin Skullsplitter: Salvation
IIRC the setting was moved forward to a point between Legends and Wrath. I think the setting will start in year 605 while the original RPG was on 601. Not sure, someone will correct me 'though.
WARMACHINE/Hordes no more.
IK MkII is set after the fall of Llael and the signing of the peace treaties that fell apart with the fluff of Wraith. So there are trade routes and plausable explainations for people to be across borders, not to mention spies, minor military engagements, resistance fighting, etc...

I will correct you. First edition IK was set just before/after the fall of Llael, so 604/5 AR. Second edition has the default setting between Legends and Wrath as AJ the Ronin said, but that's a few years later. 608 AR is when all the post-Legends pre-Wrath books happened, and that's where IK RPG MK II is assumed to take place.
Of course, if you hate the Everybody at War with Everybody thing, you can probably just set it back in the past like I plan to.
