    Default Some Ret WIP's

Hi guys I have lost a little intrest in my cygnar at present(to many trench bases to make and paint ) So I have done a little more work on my Ret stuff .
I loved the art work for the heavy rifle team in the Wrath book so I decided to put them on bases that would have the same look.
The bases are not glued yet and the guns are not set in place either but they sit fine to get the idea.
So here we go two side by side

Nice bases which really emphasize the "sniperism". Personally I could never do anything like that as I can imagine how confusing it would be for my gaming group to understand that they don't have transportable cover with them all the times.

    - "So he is behind a wall?"
    - "No, it's just a base. He doesn't have cover."
    - "Oh, so that other Heavy Rifle guy over there, does he have cover?"

I'd probably make those base inserts part of the terrain and would try to move my Heavy Rifles there during the game

Without linking to the other site they are from Dark-Age the groundwerks set of bases, some real gems to choose from and pretty good price to. I got mine from a online retailer here in AUS so they are pretty easy to pick up

I used the same basing for my never fielded winterguard field gun...

Looking good Rolfe, the bases are fantastic. Good thinking. The painting is great too, the red lenses and scopes really makes it pop and leans towards Ret having all the cool tech they are supposed to.

The only thing I'm not totally sold on is the green you have chosen, I saw your jacks at the tourny but thought I'd wait to see a finished model. It looks good and suits them fine but I think a more military green would suit them better (ordic olive), its much of a muchness to be honest. They will look awesome either way, this tone of green is quite vibrant and bold (the snipers seem great but the jacks seemed a little too bright). An ordic olive kind of tone would look grittier and more industrial but to be honest everyone in Townsville is jumping on the ordic olive bandwagon (my legion, JR's khador, Graeme's Skorne etc).

The green on the snipers seems much darker than the jacks I saw, which I think is a good move.

Yeah I didnt like how the green on the jacks turned out TBH they went way to bright, This was the colour I was really after and it is really two tones darker with a wash to give it a little more shade so I have stripped those jacks and will be repainting this colour. This green was Gnarls over a black undercoat and then 50/50 with Vallejo Sick Green then Pure Sick Green. The others I went past Sick Green into Goblin Green then Scorpy Green so yeah wasnt a fan of how it turned out.
However on my mages and such I will use the Goblin Green and Scorpy Green to make some OSL effects and power gauntlet glow.

I was going to put more colour into the grey but I liked how it sits now so I prob wont. The red still needs a few tones and a varnish to give it some shine so I think they will pop more and works well with the toned down green.

I think I like this more toned down darker look with more depth and less in your face colour, But the jacks are the big test lol.

Well there is no reason why you can't paint your jacks different. Grey can be a pain to highlight but you could reverse your scheme, predominantly grey and black on the jacks with some green plates. Or something entirely different, you only have to link it to this scheme in some small way for the army to still look as one.

Yeah I think im going to paint some of the smaller panels on my jacks grey or might put a design/pattern up the shoulders but I will have a look when I get to it as with a airbrush it makes i easy to adjust a scheme on the fly.

I think I am also going to strip those MHSF down as much as it pains me and repaint them into theme and use ordic olive or a field green as the cloak colour.

But have to say that Ret has spiked my interest in painting a bit

Ok so I got a hour or so to do the rest on these guys.
Again table top rush job so I am pretty happy with the time frame I used to get these done, might strip and re do one day but I have alot more waiting to get painted so that will be long down the track
I think I will be doing some HSBM and Arti next with my first go at OSL on the power gloves...

Sorry about the light its night here at the moment and I had to use a lamp.
