Default No Quarter & Warmachine/Hordes PDFs

Apologies if this has been asked before, but...

I'm still a new Hordes player, so I'm still finding out what resources there are available. I see that some back issues of No Quarter are available as PDFs, but not all of them. Why not? Is it some legal tangle? And dare I raise the possibility of a subscription via the Kindle's newstand feature?

Also, what about getting the rulebooks in PDF format? Is there somewhere I can legally download these?

Finally, what about the upcoming Iron Kingdoms rpg? Will it be available in PDF as well?

I'm interested in ebooks because I have a tablet, and it'd be handy to be able to tote all the books aound in one tidy little package.

I don't have specific information but we are definitely exploring options for digital publishing in the future.

Don't take this as being anything close to actual legal advice, but from what I understand of US copyright law, it's perfectly legal for you to do your own scans of books that you own, so long as it is for exclusively personal, non-commercial use, and you do not share them with anyone. You could then put them on your laptop/taplet/whatever.

However, I like the idea of Privateer Press exploring digital publication options. I want Kindle Warmahordes books!

As a side note, I'm greatly hoping that the Iron Kingdoms RPG coming out later this year is released on the Kindle store.

I'm glad to hear that PP is exploring the idea. Some gaming companies are so anti-epub it's ridiculous. And IMHO it makes even less sense for miniatures games. With them, you make your real money off the minis, not the rulebooks.

I think I'd rather see the IK RPG in PDF format than Kindle. Most epub formats preserve the text, but lose the pictures & look of the physical book. And from what I saw in the IK RPG preview video, it's gonna be a gorgeous book. The picture of the Cryx warjack being assembled really caught my eye.

I'm assuming it's also a matter of partnering with game stores. They don't like to see the publisher selling the same thing they are, but at a lower cost (which an e-book would probably be). Plus, it's just not supporting the places that support the game.

What I would love to see is something similar to the Bits & Mortar program, where when you buy a physical rulebook you get the PDF for free.

Catalyst Game labs puts out a lot of ther stuff for Classic Battletech in PDF and 'dead tree' format. Most of the older books in PDF (simply scans) are pretty cheap ($5-10), while their newer releases can run from $18-25, which is pretty close or equal to the price of the physical book.

While I prefer most of their books in PDF, I know the CBT community is split fairly evenly between those who prefer the physical book and those who would rather have the PDF. There is even a large minority of people who purchase both, thus doubling sales.

It seems to be working pretty well for CGL. They even have some PDF only things like scenario packs at a pretty low cost (~$5).

And they do have bundles where you can buy the PDF and the physical book; getting the PDF while awaiting the release of the actual book is a major selling point for a lot of people.

One method is to have ebooks tied to an online app/store (say sell it on Kindle) or give them with physical copies (each has a one time use code for a download).

Oh god... I don't really need 11 USB drives, but if this happened, I would.

Oh wow. I'd love a skin for my Kindle Fire with an Orboros or Hordes theme. I don't think tablet skins & cases would have enough of a demand to stock them, but PP could make them available through a manufacture-on-demand site like Zazzle.

Very glad to hear this, id be much more likely to buy the entirety of the NQ collection if i could just push an order button and have it on my comp, rather than track it down.

Yup, huge interest in pdf's of the rulebooks. Something else that would be pretty cool is a well formatted text version of the Mk II rulebook in a format that I could read on my Nook/Kindle/whatever. Pretty pictures are great, but sometimes you just need to reference a rule and nothing else. I've gotten pretty spoiled on carrying a library worth of books around with me without any real weight. Then i pick up my rulebooks for a game and it's a vastly different story. Digital Distribution is a hell of a thing, and the quicker and more adeptly our beloved hobby adapts to such an awesome advance in mobile technology, the better off we as players will be. /rant Glad to hear PP is looking into it. You guys rock the house, and I love being a Warmahordes player. If nothing else, i always know Privateer Press has my back as a player and isn't just out to take my money on overpriced crap and laugh all the way to the bank (like that -other- game.)

I'd own both copies, one digital and hard copy. I would love the option of getting a digital copy.

Gotta say, I'd pick up an e-book reader if the Faction and Expansion books went digital.
