    Default Can the Vessel of Judgment charge?

    I've started to assemble my Vessel of Judgment and have been reading up on how to use it. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is charging. Can the Vessel of Judgment charge? It has no mount or melee abilities. I assume it doesn't get impact attacks and can't trample like the Gun Carriage.

    Can the Vessel of Judgement charge?
    Having a melee weapon is a prerequisite to being able to charge.

    That should answer your question.

    I look at the guy dragging the Vessel of Judgement and I wonder how hard he'd hit if they actually gave him a melee attack. He looks like he'd have an immense strength score. :P
    Sometimes a caster has to do the job themselves!

    Why doesn't the guy use the vessel itself as a weapon?

    *attack- About Face! - Rotate this model's base so that is touching one point where its base was previously and turn it to face its previous center. Any model underneath the base is hit and takes a pow 14 damage roll and is slammed d6 inches away from this model.

    So there's no way to squeeze extra movement out of it? With Khador, i've been doing the "Gun Carriage Trample Dirt power attack out of the deployment zone" lately. Alot of times I don't need to move after that first trample.

    The only way to get more movement out of the Vessel is for it to run. The Doors of Judgement miracle happens on your opponent's turn...

    Since it is more of a support than offensive piece, turn one is about positioning. The ranged attack has a decent range, but you really don't want the Vessel engaged, besides using the Eruption of Faith miracle to clear enemy models away.

    Oh wow, I just had a mental image of a full unit of those guys with flame fists, like little humanoid Castigators. Ok, I have a new favorite for what I want Flame Bringers to be.

    I remember when the pictures of the Vessel first came up, we were joking about it having a rule named "Surprise!" - when the Vessel is destroyed, place Amon ad Raza within the area of the destroyed Vessel. He was pulling the thing all along.

    We have this joke...the only way VoJ can charge is if it's rolling down a steep hill XD with the guy hanging on the front like in comedy films

    I've learned from my games that you want to deploy your tarpit as kind of a net around the vessel, something like this:

    z= zealot
    m = monolith bearer
    v= part of the voj

    0z z z v v v z z z
    0z z v v v v v z z
    000v v v v v v m
    0000v v v v v00
    00000v v v0000

    Then you run your infantry screen and spread out in front of the vessal while it runs turn one. Turn two onward have it advance up field behind your screen, letting them take the charge (And hopefully stalling it with GD) This works especially well if the opponent decides to send infantry after them since the VoJ's admonisher and Eruption of faith miracles only affect enemy models, so you can shoot an unengaged model if you have LOS and bounce the shot to clear some of the models engaging your Zealots, or use eruption of faith to force models out of melee for some firebombing.

    I don't really recommend trying to accelerate the voj to get a shot on something thats hanging back, as it tends to get charged when it gets separated from your main force. We have lots of ways of mitigating an alpha strike, let the units that are good at taking the charge shield your vessel and you will find it to be an effective ranged and support platform. Don't expect it to be your assassin or heavy killer, leave that to the reckoner/vanquisher.

    I have been running the Vessel and TFG + UA with Severius1, so the TFG get Defender's Ward turn one and run- Iron Zeal if they need it to survive. The Vessel follows up with a run to get into position. I have had very few issues with enemy infantry getting to the Vessel, and it hasn't had to move a lot after my second turn. Zealots usually pack in on one side or the other for my second wave.

    So far, so good....
