    Cool Help my girlfriend out!

    Hey all

so i have been able to get my better half into Warmachine, and she has decided to play Menoth. we are both complete noobs (i am teaching her to play, while i am teaching myself at the same time).

We have only really played against each other (moving and lack of a good game shop prevented playing others) so we have not dug too far into the rules. While we recently found a great local game shop (if anyone lives in the Toronto area, X Planet in mississauga is GREAT!) and the owner and some people have talked us into playing a doubles tournament this weekend.

So, now to the question part of this post. I am looking to make a 25 point list for the gf. I am looking to make a list that is easy to play (does not rely on special rules, like power attacks or fancy maneuvering) and has a good chance at not getting slaughtered. I know we are likely to lose all our games, we do not really care. We mostly just want to have fun and put up a fight.

Here are the models she has access to:

    PKreoss
    eFeora

    Full Flameguard +UA
    Min Flameguard
    Full Exemplar Errants
Min Exemplar Errants (i think she has a UA, not sure)
    Full Deliverers
    Daughters of the Flame
    Full Cleansers
    Knights Errants
    Zealots and UA

    Redeemer
    Repenter
    Reckoner
    Dervish
    Blessing of Vengence
    Crusader
    Castigator
    Vanquisher

Max Choir (I HATE THESE GUYS!!!)
    Vassal of Menoth
    Vassal Mechanic

The tourney is deathclock and SR 2012. I will be playing Rhulic mercs (I have all the jacks, high shields, bunch of solos, but no forgeguard)

Thanks for any help you guys can gives and any tips that might let us pull out a win

so this doubles Tournament, how exactly is it working? is it 2v2? I would suggest using casters that can benefit both factions. I would lean towards Kreoss as his feat as well as spells focus more on hindering your enemies which will benefit both of you.

Some Errants with UA and Defenders Ward will have some decent staying power and can add some mobility that the Rhul folk lack

Well, pKreoss is probably the most user-friendly warcaster we have, but with all those Flameguard models I couldn't in good conscience recommend him. I'm partial to eFeora, so here's what I would take with her given the models available:

    eFeora
    >> Reckoner
    >> Vanquisher
    >> Redeemer (Bonded)
    max Temple Flameguard+UA

    Reinforcements: Daughters of the Flame

It comes in a point low on the main list, but a set of wracks or vassal mechanik (my recommendation) would be a good next purchase anyway. Frankly, I'm surprise that you've gotten as far as you have without even a Choir or other support piece, Menoth really shines with some singing monks.

Sorry, i should have been more specific

its a 2v2 (so the total on each side is 50 points, 25 for me, 25 for her). The turns are rotated, so it would, for example, me > opponent A > her > opponent B > me etc

Kreoss pop and drop is probably your best bet. Any combination of errants + UA, cleansers(great on feat turn), choir, Redeemer, Vanquisher, Reckoner.

My biggest concern is tackling a Steamroller tournament when you don't even have all the rules down. I'm not trying to be negative, but SR tournaments are pretty hardcore. It is very demoralizing when you lose turn 2 and didnt even have a chance to do anything or understand what happened. This is even more prevalent in doubles.

Either way I hope you do have fun and stick with the game.

Kreoss1, definately. It's the most user-firendly caster we have (like Spaero said), and (despite Spaero's comment) a full unit of Temple Flameguard goes well with him. His Defender's Ward spell, coupled with their own Set Defense, pumps their Defense to near-unhittable levels, and under shield wal they have armor equal to our heavy warjacks. For a mere 6 points (8 if you take the UA) that's one hell of a road-block.
On top of that he has an amizing spell that can outright deny your opponent the ability to cast any amount of spells without suffering horribly. The rest of his spell list is pretty solid too, and with a killer feat AND a focus stat to feed two heavy warjacks - he's a great pair up with your dwarves.

I'd go with something like this:
    Kreoss1
    -Reckoner
    -Vanquisher
    -Dervish
    Full TFG
    Min. Choir
    Vassal

that's 25 points of our finest models and units.
Kreoss keeps up Defender's Ward on the Flameguard, and Lamentation. Cast Purification as needed, but if you do; don't forget to recast these 2 spells if you need them.
The TFG are your front line troops; their high defense and armor wil allow them to soak up huge amounts of attacks before dying. They don't actually need to do anything else, but every kill they can make is great.
The vanquisher is your primary anti-infantry tool; hit large AoE and auto-fire wil clear most units off the table. The vassal can give you a 2nd shot each turn, as needed.
The reckoner is your prime anti-heavy tool, and kan assist in assassinating with its gun's Flare ability.
The dervish is there as a cruise missile. Send him off after those pesky solos or tougher infantry. He's also a great assassination tool; his side-step abilitiy gives him a dangerous threat range (and not a straight line required!), and coupled with the Reckoner's flare and choir buffs, this guy will MURDER most warcasters/warlocks.
The choir is there to buff warjacks. No-brainer.
The vassal will primarily give either the Reckoner or Vanquisher additional shots, with its ancillary attack ability. If needed, he can prevent serious harm with his Enliven ability.

    I like:
    pKreoss
    Reckoner
    Vanquisher
    Errant (max) + UA
    Choir (min)
    Vassal
If either of you have Rhupert, Piper of Ord I would put that in to replace the Vassal
List has a lot of guns to utilize Kreoss' feat
Not a whole lot of models to move
Errants with DW are pretty good

If you do not have the Errant UA I would drop the Vassal and add a Repenter (-2 for no UA, -2 for Vassal, +4 for Repenter). Once again more great Menoth jack shooting. Alot does depend on what you are intending on playing. The plus side of the list i sugested is that it can get pretty good control on infantry heavy lists so you can run more tank breaking tech. Between the two of you you are runing the two slowest factions in the game so you should brick it up a bit.

I would have proposed exactly what zulu81 just said. Seems like a really good list and the Repenter suggestion is spot on.
