Default Rok of the Bookshelfs-feld WIP...

Rok's animus and the new dire troll plastic kit have combined super-powers in an effort to get me to model and field Rok in a pMadrak beast brick of doom. Primal is just what many of our light warbeasts needed to raise them up to more suitable levels of butt kickery. Because when my Primal'ed, Carnage'd, Kriel Stoned' Swamp Troll charges and scraps your Conquest, you won't be laughing. Ok, maybe Rok won't make him that good, but you get the picture...

Like every dire troll before him, Rok suffers from gaps, gaps, gaps, especially around the waste. Here I used liquid green stuff for the first time and am pretty impressed with it. It won't bridge a large gap, but you can fill crevices with it and build it up to fill slightly bigger ones as well. Plus it waters down like paint to make it easier to work with...

Here I used grey stuff to try and hide the hump-back. Also, in assembling Rok I pinned every joint on both arms, as will as pinned his feet to the base. Did it need it? Maybe and maybe not. But after spending all the time it takes to paint a model, I just can't stand to move it onto a hill on the game board, have it accidentally fall over, and then break apart...

Filled in some of the deep recesses down the back to make it more seamless...

This side of his mane didn't turn out so well. On the arms, I clipped off some material at the top of the wrists (along with some rock protrusions) to make room for the fur...

The fur on the arms came out better than his mane. They were sculpted after, second time's a charm, or something like that...

    A splash of paint...

Used a pigment for the first time... I'm sold. It's an awesome product!

    The source of the inspiration...

Wicked, I used a metal bomber sculpt and as far as the mane I'm just going to use the whelp platform and sculpt a rune in the back and have it glowing. Of course he has his keg of beer

There's something wrong with me chemically
    Something wrong with me inherently
The wrong mix in the wrong genes
    I reached the wrong ends.

I like the hair you sculpted behind his head. I'm nearly done painting my Rok and I don't love the beard since it kind of stands out without more hair on the model. Now I kind of wish I had done what you did...*sigh*

Oh well. Nice job! I love it! Thanks for sharing :-)

I'm not familiar with the Secret Weapon Pigment (or pigments at all). I'll have to check it out.

    Looks great btw.

Thank you! It's just dry brushing. I gave it a deep black base coat. Then I dry brushed Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, Bleached Bone and finally Morrow White. Lastly, I thinned down some black ink and carefully applied it to areas that I wanted to be dark; like the line crevices. I also applied more dry brushing to the areas nearer the blade's edge. Credit goes to the brush I used. It's a flat brush I picked up in a variety pack from Jerry's Artarama. It's the best dry brush I have. The bristles are pretty stiff and it just does a real good job. Oh, and multiple coats of light dry brushing rather than heavy dry brushing!

I hadn't either. I ran across them at the Battle Foam Gaming Saloon and didn't know what they were. So I asked an employee about them and he gave me a quick run down. It's a powder, actually it looks like make-up. My wife made fun of me when she saw me using it BTW. You just put your brush into it. Then knock off or wipe off the excess, however much you think that is, and apply it. I used it to sorta shade the fleshy areas. Because it's a powder it can sorta get everywhere if you are sloppy with it. So I got smart and wet the corner of a paper towel to scrub it off of the places I had sloppily applied it to (having never used it before). Then my wife got smarter and told me to use a wet Q-tip instead, DERP! Then I sealed it immediately after and it gave that purplish color you see in places. It's a cool product and it made it look like I knew what I was doing.

Love the look of the leather bindings on his axe. Is that just snakebite washed?

Thx! That's it, not even a highlight. The areas on the bindings that are darker just got a second wash. I thought about highlighting it but I think I would have messed it up. That's actually been something I've had a hard time with. That is, learning to leaving it alone...
