Hi guys and girls!
I was chatting with a friend who just bougt a s**tload of trolls and now is looking to get competativ with them. He is ranked as nr 1 in Sweden, playing mostly Cygnar and Legion, and it will be fun to watch how his take on trolls will look like. But to my point; his initial thought was to play eMadrak and Calandra as a pair in SR12 tournaments and when he asked for my advice and I gave it a thought, I got the feel that Calandra and eMadrak is competing for the same spot when Im building my SR lists. Sure they play diffrently, but they both fokus on damage output either by the straight forward aplication of Bloodfury or by manipulation of the dice. And thus I feel I would pick one of those and have another lock take the other spot. My suggestion was either Grim or Jarl, as they bring things that no other troll warlock do.
This got me curious as to how you guys categorize your casters when you pick them to compete in a SR event given the thought you could bring two lists?
For some strange reson I thought I could start:
When I started out participating in tournaments I alway picked a caster with a list who I would face off against meleÚ oriented lists, and one who I would play if I met a ranged oriented list. At that time my choise was Calandra against meleÚ and pGrissel against ranged. Then I tried out to build one anti Warmachine (high ARM) list and one anti Hordes going, with eMadrak and pDoomy. As I got better and more cometative and learned what kind of list I could expect to meet at tournaments I came up with more complex takes on how to build lists. Right now, taking the Swedish meta in consideration, I have picked Borka and Grim. Borka for both facing heavy MeleÚ and ranged lists, and Grim for pure anti high DEF and somewhat tailored to face Cryx thrallspam. If I went to an event with three lists, I would complement those two with pDoomy for denial, and beastheavy lists.
If i had to generalize and simplify, my categorization would look somthing like this:
pMadrak: Brings: meleÚ Good vs: MeleÚ Special:Anti infantry spam
eMadrak: Brings: meleÚ, survivability Good vs: meleÚ Special: Anti high ARM
Borka: Brings: meleÚ, survivability, High Def Good vs: meleÚ, ranged
pGrissel: Brings: meleÚ, combined arms, Speed, boardcontrol Good vs: meleÚ, ranged
eGrissel: Never played her, have no experience
Calandra:Brings: Combined arms, survivability, good dice Good vs:meleÚ Special: High damage output
pDoomy: Brings: Denial Good vs: Denial Special: Anti Hordes, Beast heavy
eDoomy: Brings: MeleÚ, Speed, boardcontrol Good vs: MeleÚ, ranged Special: Beast heavy, spell assasination
Grim: Brings: Denial, boardcontrol, combined arms, meleÚ, ranged Good vs: MeleÚ Special: Anti high DEF, anti stealth
Jarl: Brings: Speed, MeleÚ, High Def, boardcontrol Good vs: Ranged, MeleÚ (outthreat) Special: Anti high DEF, anti stealth
Gunnbjorn: Brings: Ranged, survivability, boardcontrol Good vs: Ranged (feat turn) Special: Looks damn cool!
Pleas feel free to pick this apart and come with other suggestions to fill in what I am missing!
So, how do your caregorizations look like? What locks do you bring, and why? What do you take in conzideration when building list? Anything? Something? Pleas!
