    Default Making a scenario deathstar

    Hi all,

I was playing and sending off my troops nonchalantly to their second (or third who really knows...) deaths when I had a brief thought crossing my mind. What if (and I know this may sound blasphemous) we had a deathstar unit that we cared about enough to keep around? I mean sure we have the Bane Thralls + UA + BLT, Mech Thralls + Surgeons, Satyxis Raiders + UA + Solo.... Okay, okay I then realized that we do have several options which are some combination of tough tarpits that can bring the hurt if they are left alone.

So back to the game, I realized that I often neglect the scenario as much as possible to go for the assassination and/or destroying as much as I can, but what if I wanted to actually take scenario wins? Basically I am wondering at your opinions on the best units + solos you all use to clean off an area, sit on it and make the opponent scratch their head about retaliating. Again I realize that this may not be a standard Cryxian style (at least not in my meta) but just thinking...

    Thanks

I think the term Deathstar isnt really something we can attain with our units, mainly because we are the faction that deals in debuffs. Which means we make the enemy weaker much more often than we make ourselves tougher. But we do have plenty of X-Wing units! And those are the best way to deal with any Deathstar dontchaknow.

Biles to clean zones of infantry.
Scavvy or eDenny to drag heaviest out, or jacks/bokurs to slam them away, or just straight up kill them, in which case we have a lot of options.

IMO if you want to be serious about scenario winning and not just pressure, you need ranged options and/or far charging options.

Fair enough. My lists often have a reaper/Malice or PWs but I guess I enjoy the melee power more on average.

Pistol wraiths are doubly awesome for scenario play I'd say, as the combination of Death Chill when you need to hobble something big and incorporeal when you want to simply contest a point.

Satyxis Raiders do well in that they can greatly control where the front lines of any fight are going to be thanks to their speed and survivability. (Immunity to blasts on a base defense 14 will save alot of models) they also have some lovely tricks to confound the enemy.

Machine Wraiths do surprisingly good at being an incorporeal objective place mat. Remember that they do have melee weapons. Not to use them as much as to engage a non magical unit or two that you don't want to have it easy.

I've recently returned to the dark side. How does this combo work as a deathstar?

I'd like to know that as well

I'm guessing it's because the Boarding Party will block LoS to Venethrax, and that he's bloody hard to bring down unless you can debuff or Focus strip him (preferably both).

Boarding Party provide a meat shield to Venny, who camps his focus and has Wrathe behind him giving effectively 2 more armor. He forgot to add in the Withershadow Combine, letting Venethrax sit on his own at 25 armor, with Wrathe 'buffing' it to effectively 27....But at that armor he doesnt really need the flesh wall! Even armor piercing can only get him down to a 17/19 armor...Hunters are still not that scary.

Thats my guess anyway. I do plan on taking a min Boarding squad to block LOS to Venny during those few turns before he's charging stuff next time I run the fellow.

I've been fortunate enough that my local players mysteriously dont take her every time/ever, so I always forget about that gal. >.< Still cant wait for my dream of her getting wraithwitchified and becomming a Cryx solo to come true.

hmmm just thought about scavy with the boaring party. Death ward gives +2 arm. So that would be 17 arm our 19 vs living if we consider darragh wrath. anyone tried this?

    Sadly ogruns are so ugly

Um, they do have a melee attack--not a good one, but it is there.

I am kind of new to Cryx. What do you mean by X-Wing units?

Other forces have certain units that are considered "DeathStars". We dont actually have the capability to build such units (as far as i am aware). They play like a brick to the windshield.
We excel at being surgical and taking them down while being able to avoid their primary means of defense and/or offense. We play more like a scalpel to the carotid artery.

for anyone who has never seen StarWars:A New Hope. (yes, they exist)
Deathstar-big scary space station (not a moon!) with super laser.
X-wing -bitty little single man fighter that found the Death Star's weakness and kerploded it.

closest thing to that i can think of would be 3 max squads of mechanithralls with surgeons.
