A Tale of Warmahordes: April Completed Models Thread

Welcome to the April Completed Models thread for A Tale of Warmahordes 2012. Apologies for the late launch, but work has gotten in the way thus far today.

A few ground rules for this thread:

• This thread will remain open until 12pm GMT on Monday 13th May - any posts with a date/time entry after that point will not count towards your April totals. I will, however, cross-post any late entries into the May completions thread.
• This thread is for models which entrants into A Tale of Warmahordes 2012 have completed during April. You can also include models which you completed too late for previous months.
• Please post seperate pictures for distinct unit entries, with a note as to how many points each entry is worth.
• I'm still looking into the possibility of a gallery, so please confirm in your post if you will be happy for me to load your pictures (with appropriate credit) into it if I do get one set up.
• Once we hit the 13th, I'll update the Google Docs spreadsheet with how many points each entrant posted.
• Anyone who has less than five points posted by the closing date will count as using one of their "Get Out of Painting Free" cards

I finished three of the many models I said I would and got work done on the rest. I also received a couple Minutemen in the mail and just had to build/paint one of them! At least I stuck to my word on the small and medium bases part.

Alright, mates, I'm back!

For April, I finished 24 points of models. This brings my total for the year to 53 points. I'm one of those hot or cold people. :P Anyway, by posting 24 points, I hope to buy back both of my "get out of painting free" months as per the rules (10 points for each month). I'll need them later when I run out of models. :P

Anyway, I've divvied up my stuff so I'll be better able to work on this and keep pace with the competition.

sadly i completely missed last months deadlines due to underestimating some assessments, but this month my goal is achieved and im hoping to make up for last month during the holidays with a crazy caffinated painting bender!.

first thing that was painted this month whas rhoven and his buddies though i learnt some big lessons with these guys, when i undercoated them the paint went very chalky and instead of stripping them and starting again i stubonrly painted on...never again!




next i painted some wracks as they fit into a D&D adventure i had planned for that weekend these models are a crazy ammount of fun to paint.



followed by my first menoth jack id like to get some large surface practice before painting my VoJ




i also painted my first menoth warcaster but i wont do a solo picture of him as we are limited to 5 pictures <this prolly isnt a bad thing> and id like to finish with a picture of my progress so far including the new menoth colossal the kitten of judgment



next month i will be painting a unit of bastions and another solo im not sure which yet maybee a paladin

Careful. I hear he has a thresher attack with reach, that causes knockdown, chipping and critical remove from painting surface.


Mercenary mutijack--my first experiment with magnets, have it set up as a Mule / Nomad. 8pts.



Full unit of Steelhead Halberdiers (6pts). I'm not keen about painting relatively uniform infantry units, so just decided to grit my teeth and get them done in one big rush.



Sylys, (2pts) and Aiyana & Holt (4pts). I wasn't too keen on the gaudy look of A&H in the illustration, so went with a monochrome, "men in black" sort of look for their outfits.



Total of 20pts. If you think them worthy of the gallery, I'd be honoured.

Goals for this month: Rocinante, some Gun Mages and a random bunch of warcasters and solos I've left half-finished for rather too long.

Only got two models finished this month - a color/method test of a pistol wraith (3 pts), and an Ogrun Bokur for an exchange (3 pts) - Antigonus, if you don't want to count the exchange fig, that's fine. I'll burn on of my GOoPF cards, and make up for it in May.

Sadly, I started many things in April but finished nothing, so will have to use one of my 'get out' cards for April

Hoping to earn it back in May finishing some things for the UK Masters.

I'm in Japan until the 14th on my honeymoon, so I'm sure ya'all will excuse me for not posting photos. I did, however, complete a full unit of Boom Howlers and the Winterguard Deathstar before I left (which was on the 30th). The WG unit plus Joe is 13pts, and the Boomies is 9pts? So a total of 22pts for May & April.

When I get back there will be a mad rush to finish up some stuff for L&L. I was going to play Cryx for speedmachine, which would have required me painting up a metic ton of models, but the times were changed to 12 minutes so I'll be sticking to a faction I'm more familiar with (Khador Black & Tans!). I'll be painting up a Spiggan, two units of enforcers, a Juggy Extreme for the paint competition, and something else to enter in the other paint competition categories. Fingers crossed!

So I've been trying to finish up all my outstanding warmachine before the Lord of Terror (Diablo 3) comes out, and patio season hits. This means the quality suffers a little, but it also means I'm trying more techniques to get things done faster. AKA higher contrast.

I realised that smooth tones don't matter as much at this scale as does upping the contrast of the colours in my models. Conveniently, upping contrast is a LOT easier than smooth shading. So higher contrast will be the name of the game. It's hard getting that high contrast blend smooth enough that I'm okay with it, but it's coming along.

Having 2 warmachine factions (Khador and Cryx) I've always wanted to pick a hordes faction for variety.
Imagine my joy when I came upon 18 points of used skorne that I liked at this store in March. It became the perfect excuse to get into Hordes. 3 days later, I had purchased a 35 point Makeda Skorne list.

I still wanted to most of my outstanding models before March 15th, however, so I started fevereshly painting them up.

April was a good month, with me finishing 20 points of my army . I've also got a good start on the rest of my points, and with any luck, I'll finish them soon. (Today, maybe!)

* I finished 2 Cyclops Savages, 1 Titan Gladiator, full unit of Paingiver Beast Handlers, and Hakaar the Destroyer
