I have a question for all of you.

Can I coat the grass with Minwax Polyurethane? My plan is to spray the board with it and then give the pathways a once-over with Testors Dullcoat.

Has anyone tried this? How do you make sure your grass lasts?

The grass sits tight with PVA glue. I usually spray a few coats of matt varnish once the glue is dry, just to prevent little grass straws from sticking to my minis and everywhere else.
    Glue it then varnish it.

What kind of Matte Varnish would you recommend? I want to get this right the first time.

Here's a quick update... I didn't make as much progress yesterday as I would have liked. I did however get half of the pathways drybrushed.

I drew them on with a pencil. You can see in one spot where the pencil "strayed" when I was making a straight line. If you want straight lines, I would recommend cutting a the line with a hobby knife first, then do the pencil. It took me about 2 hours to do all of the walkways.

The key to making it look like stone is irregularity of both shape and size.

Yeah, I think he's pretty cool too...
This is a picture of him painting his WH0RE-jack. He can't quite pronounce war, so we have a good laugh every time he says it.
If you have kids, this is some of the best father/son time you can have (as a gamer). It also means that all these people who say that they don't have time to paint their minis haven't thought about child labor. He does a pretty good job for a 2 year old.

By the way, he sleeps with this war-jack like it was a teddy bear. Every limb/weapon has broken off and had to be re-pinned. The paint is so thick in some spots now that the rivets aren't visible. And I still put it out on the table when I play. It's one of my favorite jacks.

Buy some green army men and prime them black. It's about $2-$5 for a bag of 25 models. She will have an entire force in no time.

    Nice...

OK, back to the original thread topic.
I spent last night adding the gravel to the grooves next to the concrete on the entire board. This was no small task! There's a lot of grooves on that board.

Then I started to add flocking to the board. It was ugly!!! I need to prime it with a darker green.

You can post it wherever you like (maybe include the link here). I truly live life with an open hand. What's mine is yours (except M&Ms... those are always mine). I posted it here because this is the online community that I'm a part of. You can definitely share it with your online community.

So tonight I finished the gravel, walkways, and grass underpaint for this half of the board.
Now I need to drybrush the walkways and add the gravel to the other half.

    Home stretch.

And I finished the walkways and the gravel in the creases.

Tomorrow night... Drybrush the gravel, fine sand next to the gravel and flocking on the rest of the board.

I have made some squares that I painted and grass turf flocked. I went to the local railroad shop and they sold me some Scenis Cement by Woodland Scenics. It works. The grass got a little darker but the stuff is matte finish and it really cements the flocking down (no pun intended). I can not recommend it enought. A 16 oz bottle with the spray bottle applicator was under $10 here in Dallas. If you go that route, be sure to clean the spray nozzle by spraying clean water thru it or the cement will ruin the spraier ( I learned the hard way. the spray bottle was only $3 or so.

Also can be found at Hobby Lobby stores, not sure about Michaels.
