That's right, Ashlynn has turned Privateer!

This is my pirate WIP blog. I'll be updating probably once a week or so hopefully, time permitting.

This 35 point force consists of

Freebooter
Arcane Gun Mages + UA
Sam McHorne & Devil Dogs
Anastasia di Bray
Master Gunner Dougal

I also have some other models that will be done here for swaps depending on my mood and what I want to play in the list.

This is my basing solution. This what it looks like before and after primer. They're just stirrers from Starbucks (no, I don't drink their terrible coffee). The dots on the wood are just for my personal reference when cutting and fitting them together.



This is my Ashlynn. I know she doesn't have armor, but I like it that way. Her defense comes from her speed anyway. :P I loved this model and just had to put it in my army is some aspect, despite the exorbitant cost. The picture does it no justice.

These are my Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (ONE, TWO, THREE). The girl with the monkey on her back is probably going to be my UA since the monkey differentiates her. The Llaelese gunfighter girl will be getting a piratey hat (greenstuff) and one or two of the girls (yes, they're all girls) will be getting eye patches. I still have to do some minor converting, replacing guns with swords and the like.






Obviously this is my Freebooter. He's VERY WIP. You might notice some holes drilled into his torso. They're for the face cages I'll be giving him (and the other jacks as well) similar to the ones Rob Jedi did for his jacks.

The color scheme is a basic naval kinda grey color offset by the orangey colors for contrast. His 1 shoulder is striped, as will the other jacks shoulders be.

Anyway, comments and critiques welcome. I hope you enjoy so far and I'd be glad to answer any questions.

UPDATE:

The Freebooter is about 90% finished. Got some metal on the backs of his legs to do, his stacks, and a few other minor things.

I love the bases. I tried to do bases like that with balsa wood and they didn't turn out well. Yours look great.

No, they're in there (only primered right now, though); they're just non-PP models so I just inline image them. I've got them linked in both bold and italics in my first post, like this. Seems most people are just skipping the 'word parts.' :P

Not sure to be honest, I've only just seen in in other people's threads that they can't have direct images of non-PP models, according to the mods, and that stuck in my head so I linked em. *shrugs*

My 'Ashlynn' is a Freebooter mini and the gun mages are from Black Scorpion, with the 'monkey girl' being a Reaper mini.

What type of snap did you use for the valve wheel? That is such an awesome idea (even if borrowed from elsewhere) - sure beats trying to sculpt one :P

The color scheme is looking real good.

The snaps are Dritz Sew on Snaps size 4/0. You get 12 of them for $1 or so. I bought mine in a brick and mortar craft store, but here's a place online that has them (for reference):

They had both black and chrome at the store, I used black, then primed them with spray primer and painted over them.


Ashlynn's base miniature is The Pirate Queen by Freebooter miniatures.

Yeah, she's just exorbitantly expensive. I liked the model too much to pass it up, though. If you can't find the snaps, I can send you as many as you need, it's no problem.

Started the Mule, he's still very WIP, no highlights/shading, less than 50% done. Here are a few pics:









Sorry for the crappy pics, I'll take better ones when he's done.

As you can see, he's a crossbreed between a Mariner and a Mule. I used a Mariner head (beautifully cut by Justin Kase) and Mariner legs on a Mule torso.

The gun was changed a bit (hard to see, sorry); I just added the bits from the Mariner kit to the side and left off all the extraneous stuff like the barrel and hose and such. I hated how top heavy the Mule looked.

I also shaved off the spikes on the mace; I'm not a fan of spikes for the sake of spikes, and the mace has a more realistic look to it now in my opinion. Once I get this piece finished, I'll post more pics.

Really like the way you strapped the chest and ammo to the side, rahter then the barrel on top. Still trying to figure out what to do with mine, and I may be borrowing from your ideas

The mace actually looks pretty damn good with the studs as opposed to the spikes - be a lot easier to cleanup after battle too
