Default Blowing the dust off: Raek

Hello every one. I'm sure by now your all familiar with my "Blowing the Dust" threads. Well this one is no different. Today I want to discuss the Reak. This one is the first actual "dusty" model it hasn't seen table time since I started with 20 pts of legion for a leauge way back in the day. But I really love the predatory look of these guys. Speed 7 with bounding leap. 2 attacks. Ok animus... Nothing spectacular but not bad for 4 pts. Most days id rather 2 shredders. It does have a decent tech roll with a few casters like saeryn, absolina, and vayl1. I surmise it may make an ok assassian with kallus 3-5 pow 13/14 boosted to hit. Meh. How do you feel about him? what is your favriot use, list, caster with these creatures of the night

I had mine assassinate pVlad at the back of his army once under Kallus, threw Ignite + DG up, leapt over his IFP, and took him down with no additional help, was pretty impressed by that showing, especially after in a previous game between his initials and bought tail attacks he took out almost an entire unit of doom reavers that got up into my face.

I like the little guy, it's just hard to find 4 points for him between the 'essential' models I want with a given caster, but I take him with Abby & Kallus so far. I'm debating dropping one into my 50 pt eThags list as well.

My problem is I want between 2- 4 heavies every list and I dont often have the pts. Typically considering most of my games are played at 35pts

I am newer to legion but have been playing the Raek with Saeryn. I really like what it can do for getting blight bringer out. 14 in run or the 12 inch advance and leap which is more ideal sometimes to throw a couple attacks before the blight bringer is dropped. Usually good on multiwound models. I haven't had much use for the animus yet but everything else about it including the way it looks is great on my books.

The raek is amazing for 4 points. I deploy a shredder near it, chuck up tenacity and run towards enemy infantry first turn. It is regularly put into army lists as an all-purpose annoyance model. Leap+headbutt casters, slaughter infantry (they can't get through 16/15 usually), slam things around, hunt solos and generally infuriate/scare people. I think its the best 4 point beast/jack in the game.

A very nifty toolbox beast, it usually doesn't kill a lot of stuff but it helps the rest of the army. While 2 shredders will probably do more raw damage (just estimating here), the reak provides more utility by with the leap and power attacks as some have already described. Stealth+high defence usually keep him safe until it does the job but I generally don't care if it dies for the cause.

The Raek really shines with abby. With playing god he can stop heavies by locking them and throw casters around, and if the need arises he can eat infantry up with carnivore. You could also make him DEF18 with forced evo and tenacity but I've never done it myself.

His animus is rarely used on himself, but it gives some weak warlocks the means to escape being locked in combat by scary things.

No matter how many times it ****s them up, my opponents never take Raek seriously because there's always a heavy just waiting for a misstep.

Absylonia forced evo, playing God & feat
    Saeryn blight bringer & feat
    pVayl incite & feat
    eThag MD & feat

They are my favorite light warbeast in Hordes. Not necessarily the best light in Hordes... Just a personal favorite.

I'm really enjoying these little threads. You keep touching on the models I really like the look of, but nobody talks about in their competitive list building. I'll be honest, the Raek is probably one of my favorite models in this army, if not for all of Hordes. Plus, it must be a good model if guys like Neutralyze use em.

I just started a legion army, so haven't played much. I got a Raek with the battlebox when I started. I think the model is very predatory looking, and with Absylonia being the warlock I think I am going to use the most I can see alot of benefits for the Raek. Stupid question I'm sure, but can you leap after charging?

Thanks jamora. I don't get any feed back so it's nice it can help some one. I just enjoy discussion. So I try to open topics to bring back up things players dont use often. Or just discuss again threads new players may have missed.
I love new players. My shop is full of them. So I gear most my efforts tword newer players.

    @Neut how, why, with whom?

I picked up a raek for saeryn and absylonia but I actually enjoyed it with pVayl. With chiller, and incite it really earned it's points. I actually started thinking about getting a second to have one on each side with pVayl. I really liked the raek attacking infantry and then solo hunting

Much like everyone here, I love my Raek but lately, since I stopped playing abby so often, it sits and rots, in favor of better stronger beasts.

I feel its a practical auto include with Absylonia, but it has uses with others, such as flipping over the front line and slamming the caster back to your forces, and she just makes him fun, cycling forced evo, or playing god on him is just FUN.

Still he's a utility piece, I think I'm going to try forcing him into lists he doesn't belong for a month and see if I can find something interesting.

pvayl loves the raek. He is a perfect target for her occulus - then channel. Since he has stealth, whatever you just channeled 8-10 to is normally not alive or cannot really retaliate. I also love him for psaeryn with blight bringer. With his reach weapon he is great at blocking charge lanes from units, as they do not want to chance the free strike and the jump lets him get into craft places.
And do not forget the value of a flying Headbutt! A beast that can jump over enemy lines and boost a power attack to knock down a pesky high defence caster - yes please!

... playing it with pVayl, upkeeping Chiller on the Raek, leaping into desired target's range, headbutt.
Knock down, thus not engaging any more, no target-in-melee-penalty.

Ta da, DEF 3 to shoot at with all you have down there, keeping the Fury-points for the damage boost, as DEF 3 should be pretty much an auto-hit.
Okay, DEF 5 would be almost an auto-hit on most ranged attacks too. But if there are defensive upkeeps on the target, the knockdown and the Chiller will help a lot.
As knocked down target, this target has to sacrifice afterwards to stand up again.

The Animus is sweet for disengaging your ranged attacker smoothly too.

Plus: the sculpt is really nice (as my daughter calls it: the "spikey dog")

I always have a Raek with eThagrosh. Reach + Def15 + leap makes it a good model to tie up a unit for a turn and block charge lanes, and it provides a good source of a knock-down via Headbutt, which is good because my list generally builds to capitalize on Scourge anyways, so an alternative way to knock things down is nice to have. It's also good to have the animus for eThagrosh himself if he has to fly over a bunch of enemy models in order to get at something important.

Because sometimes you want to slam something with a SPD 7 MAT 6 pathfinder.

And because sometimes you really want something that can get into melee from 14" away, with 5" of that going straight through models.

And because leap + lock is hilarious. And so are things with stealth that can run and engage any gun in the game.

Because we have lots of access to damage buffs. And even a 11/12 is scary when it suddenly turns into a 15/16.

    Also 4 points.

I've been trying to plan out my Journeyman league progression from 15pts - 25pts, and I'm honestly starting to think of using 2 Raek's and a 2 pt filler. Have 1 speeding up each flank to make the opponent feel a little less safe. Head butting stuff and making it easier for my shredders to bite them up and easier for the Carnivean to spray assault them.

PVayl+chiller on the raek. Jump into middle of opponents army. Incite+Typhon sprays. Job done quite often.

I usually only play mine as a Blight Bringer target sadly, and since I had shelved Saeryn for quite some time now my raek hasn't seen any play either

The Raek is easily one of the best 4 pt beasts in hordes. Most 4 point beasts seem to be fielded for an animus. Playing Skorne I'm always jealous when I see it. I wish the Razorworm was a bit more like the Raek. It's a light that can actually survive for a little while, and get something done in combat. The multiple initial attacks really helps deal with infantry. It's really just a great deal for the points cost.

I used the Reak in my last two games. (once with kallus and once with Thagrosh2) Both games I set the Reak up within ambush distance of the scenario zone. it was far enough away that she was free from danger and enough of a melee threat (with caster assistance) that my enemy did not put his lock in to contest his zone making point scoring much easier. I like it more each game I play it.

The razorwurm is a great beast with a few warlocks. Zaal turns it into a middle with last stand, rush and enrage.

Raek + blightbringer plus Hellion = HAHA precursor knights. Had my Raek on eHaley but saeryn was a little too far up.

I've only used Raek with Absylonia so far but he's awesome there! Nice to read how others use him (her?) with other casters. Keep those tactics flowing please!
