So here is the table... 180 x 120 cm (roughly 6x4) WIP...
About 'bringing it out': I can seperate the top and cary it downstairs... So with spring comming up I realy plan to bring it out and have some guys of the local group come over for a Barbecue-Beer-Brawl...
Basic Terrain so far:
I have six 60x60 cm Inserts of Styrodur (your pink or blue foam) 4 of which with a quarter hill, all in a ashes desert look.
Currently the hills will be renewed as the slope was to steep for Thunderhead and other 'top-heavy' items.
Old ones:
So the new Hills will be bigger and thus will need some 'dress up' so I thought about more rocky frontside and some mining activity...

I love the smell of ozone in the morning!
If you insist. I have a small barn on my property and I have claimed it for the glory of gaming. Here are two of my new additions, minus terrain. I look forward to filling them this summer with plenty of games.

Here is Clockwork Cove without terrain. Two 2'x4' pieces that can be rearranged.
Here it is with terrain including the RFID, color changing LEDs, the clock tower and fog machine.
Here is Corvis without terrain. Four 2'x2' pieces that can be rotated and rearranged and inserts to make hills or trenches.
Here is Corvis with terrain including LEDs.

This is the table I built when I was heavy into 40k. 4' x 8' the 2' on the end of the table was left open for a staging area for troops, ahem beer and books. It has two fold down sides that are 2' just in case I need to take the space back in my basement for some reason and a 4' x 4' gaming space is left over. It was a 2" lip around it so dice don't go flying off the table. It cost me just under $100 to build everything on this thing is pretty sturdy.

Well, you asked for it...
I've probably built two of the most impractical playing tables ever. Both of them are still a work in progress; I've been working on them on and off for a few years now.
They are difficult to play on, there are tight spaces and exact measurements are difficult. But they do give a unique experience.
"No, Mike, this is what happens in the REAL world! Horrid lumps of discharge destroy beautiful innocent robots with impunity, laughing all the way!"-Tom Servo, MST3k
Here's two tables I made as commission pieces for one of the guys who runs Heavy Gear Blitz events at Temple Con and Gen Con. There were a total of four 4x8 tables, four types -
Badlands, Savannah, Industrial/Urban, and Swamp.
BADLANDS
SWAMPS
If the Swamp panels are laid out properly, you get two continuous tributaries that fork off on end, and fork back to one as it exits the table. The bulk of the terrain is aquarium pieces from PetCo...
and here's the Savannah & Industrial/Urban Boards. I had to use separate posts, due to image limits of the forums...
A lot of the buildings on this table are from JR Miniatures. They make some great pices, and are relatively inexpensive, but it does take a few weeks to get your order, as they make the buildings when ordered!!
Some great looking tables, some stand out.
1- Poppabear Epic board, looks great.
2- Clockwork Cove, very nice table and looks like u can do countless games on this.
3- Yaba- Pit terrian, looks amazing, would love to play on that board.

Work in progress. The cut-outs are for modular terrain, with pass-throughs for wiring. I figured if I set things up so the terrain was inset into the surface, it couldn't shift and would also help make it appear seamlessly a part of the table as opposed to things simply sat on top. One edge will feature a sea wall of wooden pilings (7/16" dia. wooden dowels wrapped with jute twine, spaced 1/2" apart) and then be filled with about an inch or more of resin water. I'll have modular dock/boardwalk terrain to fit atop the pilings and allow the water to be covered in part or in whole. The modular terrain will include the option for mostly flat pieces, so as to increase playable area.
And if I do everything the way I want to, it should be covered in cobblestone and have enough potential lighting (from inside buildings and the like) to allow you to play in a dark room and still read your stat cards...
I do not work for Privateer Press. I am a volunteer. They don't send me paychecks, I don't have a desk in some corner of the warehouse, and I do not have Matt or Jason's phone numbers. I don't even live in the same time zone. If you ask me something related to how they do things, I'm probably going to refer you to Simon, Doug, or the 'email Privateer' option on the front page.
Nothing special. Just a board set up for this weekend.
