Default Stupid Orboros and his magic hate...

Someone in my playgroup plays Circle and everytime I play pDeneghra I get shut down in some sort of way by the Druid of Orboros and their Countermagic..
Now yes pDenny probably isnt the best warcaster to play with here but is there even some sort of chance? I cant get the first turn CG out on one of their warbeasts because of the 9 inch range that they grant. I was thinking just running up Tartarus and Thralls up and if he tries to throw a warbeast in front of them they take care of him with Curse, Weapon Master, and charging (pretty simple). Another consideration is a spray from Defiler but they practically have 18 DEF, with Summon Vortex. The last consideration is an AOE from either Nightwretch, because at least the deviation might help with that, or Bile Thralls Purge the living **** out of them. What do you guys think?

EDIT: sorry I forgot I was in the list discussion, Im assuming this should be in Cryx Community?

Umm, it is really not that bad, you just have something quick to run into a position to arc venom targetting your own model and catching the druids in the spray.
Else you look harder at getting an aggressive feat and focus on scenario and focus on killing druids the old axe to face route.

You've got to hit with the Nightwretch to get the template and even that'll cost you one Focus. When in doubt get up close and start breaking heads, it's a good tactic for nearly any opponent: a dead Druid can't mess with your magic so it may be worth sacrificing something to get rid of them. If their DEF is too high then use something with either CMA or CRA to make hitting easier. You could always try a different 'Caster, one that is less magic reliant and more of a beatstick. Mind you, my experience against Circle is pretty minimal.

Your best bet is to Venom them to death by positioning a friendly model to get as many as possible under the spray. Druids are immune to most elements in this game, except for corrosion. You can also shoot them with ranged like Nyss, Pistol Wraiths, and scattering Bloat Thrall AOE's (very random though). This is a tougher strategy because Druids dedicated to anti-magic are almost always going to be in the back line, and thus harder to get to.

You aren't playing against Kromac, are you? Because he is an entirely different beast altogether due to his spell Bestial which prevents arcing in his control area. He pretty much stifles pDenny on every level. There is a popular pDenny list with heavy ranged (Nyss, etc) that is a possible answer for Kromac, if he is your issue.

On the Druid Vortex - Remember that sprays like Venom and the Defiler ignore cover, concealment. So he would not get the DEF bonus against them from the cloud effect.. In fact, I'm pretty sure sprays ignore every terrain or model related DEF modifier outside of elevation.

one thing to remember as well... the anti magic bubble... is "while this model is in play" ... if you can manage to kill the leader, it will drop the bubble and you can get all the spells you want off at that time...

I murder innocents for selfish gains and steal their souls for consumption, but I wouldn't say I'm evil.

Couldn't they just field promote a new leader to the unit, right after the first one dies?

Yes, they could, but the new unit leader didn't cast Counter Magic during its last activation, so it isn't up.

I have a friend I played a lot who fielded the druids quit often and I always played pDenny so I had to deal with this match up often. Here are the tricks I did to get around it:

    1) Arc a spray at my own unit usually a bane for the debuff or a scrap thrall
    2) I chucked a scrap thrall at them. The death burst will tend to kill them
    3) I used a bloat thrall and if the deviations were not hitting I would throw it at them like my scrap thrall.

Its a tough counter to our spell loving casters but there are ways around the target issue.

Just shoot the leader with your corruptor.

I'm thinking I need to play Malice, Leviathan or Reaper in her because they are all good at assassinations, not to mention they will help a lot in situations like this. It is good to know that destroying the leader will get rid of the bubble for that turn though.

Killing random members of the unit with AOE's or whatever reduces the bubble as well.
Don't forget, if you end up being unable to 'target' a model, you couldn't actually pay for the spell, so it's not 'wasted'.

    Edit: Italic is incorrect.

If you want to stuck Deneghra, use Orin Midwinter(within 12" no spell)
Or use EGoreshade because arcane consumption, your opponenet can't use druids of orboros.

Careful, with Orin they may not be able to spell, but not so with eShade. They can still spell and pull things before they die.

This has helped out a lot, I'm not 100 % about Orin even though that spell is devastating. I'm pretty sure if an arc node is within 12 inches it can still channel because its not considering casting right ?

Are you sure? I thought there was a discussion in the rules forum a while ago which stated that targeting happens at a different step than committing to cast the spell and pay its focus. Hence you would still have to cast the spell, just not at your intended target and would have to target your own models if nothing else was available.

I'm at work, so can't do a search now, but I think that's what came out.

He's incorrect. If you have something preventing you from casting (say Orin Midwinter, you can't spend the focus/fury). If you can't target something, you have to pick a valid target. If you have no valid target, the focus/fury is wasted.

I second Scrap Thralls. They are fantastic fodder for spell targets. Slam them into the Druids if you have to.

Not quite seeing how this helps much? You still have to deal with DEF 14 models with a RAT 6. That's a pretty high roll for 2d6 and if you boost you'll only get 3 max...

When you kill unit leader Counter Magic goes away for that turn.
Anything else you get under template is less relevant.

Sprays are kind of the game breaking way to ignore a lot of DEF bonuses hence why I love them
