Have you ever used 3 Impalers?

I saw this list once, and thought it was an interesting idea: Calandra, with just 3 Impalers and 4 Bombers, 50 points.

I could never go back and find the link, but the person was using Soothing Song to manage all that fury. Personally, I think it'd be better not to have the last Bomber, and instead add Dygmies + Fell Caller + Gobbers, or the like.

This brings me to my question: have you ever used 3 Impalers? Perhaps in this situation, or more likely with Captain Gunnbjorn to take advantage of Explosivo? A few thumpers, three impalers, all at AOE 3, seems pretty scary... assuming a Bomber is coming along for the ride, too.

I know he's not all that "good", I'm just wondering if anyone has used 3 (or more) Impalers, and these seem like the most likely scenarios to do so :-)

The most i have ever used it 2 as that is what i own... i cannot think of a reason to own more than 2.

I guess having 3 shots at a ranged crit if better than 2 shots?

I think you're right, just trying to see if there was ever a case to do so... seems like a stretch!

2) If you're in Allentown, do you ever make it out to Showcase Comics just south of Philly? I'll be heading up there (from MD) at the end of July for a warmahordes event that will be taking place, and am going to start getting the word out once more details are set.

I like to take an Impaler for the crit so if I were up to use three of them I'd take them with gunnbjorn for guided fire.

In practicing for a 20 point mangled metal tournament, I tried out Gunnbjorn and 5 Impalers. It was great against Warmachine, where it caused casters to either spend all of their focus to shake their entire armies' knockdown or just do nothing that turn. It was far less effective against Hordes, however, because shaking places much less strain on a Warlock than it does a Warcaster.

I own 4, but I have only ever played 3. I got the extra 2 during MKI, when they were a lot better due to no Shake-Off in the game.

Impalers are not a good choice for Explosivo, due to the very low POW.

I play in a Warmachine heavy group. I've played with the idea of multiple Slag Trolls under Calandra's feat, just for amusement.

I bet there's more than a few people who have thought about multiple Primaled Axers.

But the only time I need that much access to Snipe, maybe I'm playing Gunny and he brings that. And that's the only reason I would really field more than one.

Yes, my gaming club (Jervis' Johnson's) play there often. Clark and Cuba always run good events and we usually attend.

As for Impalers, i like using 2 of them with Grim. Being able to cast Snipe on multiple models without taxing the Fury of the lock is nice, and when one dies you don't lose the +4. Outside of that, i do not.

I could see it in a 2-lock game with Gunny & either Grim or pMadrak.
Either way, any spare points should be spent on WHELPS. Because whelps.

Yes, she's the only one I think could handle it, due to Soothing Song. I may at some point give her a try with 3 bombers and 3 impalers, with 10 points of "stand in front of us" chaff, or champs. Might be interesting for a game or two!

In mk1 during a two caster mangled metal event I used 4 Impalers. Can't even remember the casters, but obviously Gunnbjorn wasn't out, and I don't believe Calandra was either. In any case, there was madness and I got more crits than even that would expect - and that was back when a slammed heavy was useless.
