    Default The backbone of Cygnar.

What are the the things that make up the core of your army?

Things that come to mind: Gun Mages, Long Gunners, Storm Lances.

What else is there that really is an important thing for an LGS to cater to the masses?

I almost always bring a stormclad. Squire and journeyman are also very popular.

Black 13th auto include. Storm smiths are almost an auto include. desrupt jacks, pesky stealth solo killers, infantry control, 1 point? Why not!?

Non character wise.... Squire... Gun Mages... Hunters... journeyman warcaster (alty)

Character wise... B13, Boomhowler & Co, Arlan, rhupert... That's pretty much it for me..

I'm not huge on auto includes.. so my core units sk's sb's etc... always change from list to list... but gun mages are why I like cygnar so.. I play them a lot.

Squire. The rest is tailored to the caster.

I'd go with Storm Blade Infantry, Long Gunners and ATGM for Infantry; Defender and Ironclad for jacks and GMCA for solos.

Sword Knights and Centurions are starting to make there way into my lists, but are still far from common.

Stormblades for sure. Trencher Commandos are competing with Gun Mages for my other core unit in my lists.
SQUIRE. Don't really have any core jacks...generally Ironclad, Rowdy, or Stormclad though.

The backbone of my army changes between casters, but usually revolves around a unit of Arcane Tempest Gun Mages, Trencher Commandos, Stormblade Infantry and/or a certain three man special forces team. Journeyman Warcaster, the Squire and Arlan will make usual appearances as well.

Jacks really will change from game to game with none of the heavies always sneaking in or not. For lights I usually reach for a Hunter more often than not.

Trencher units and grenadiers. Siege's Tier is a favorite of mine even. Who in their right mind runs 3 or more ROFLtillery? Me. Why? I get deep gratification out of winning with Cygnar's most disrespected units.

The backbone of Cygnar as a faction is the Warcaster itself.

Solos - Squire, Journeyman Warcaster, Arlan Strangeways...and the SQUIRE!! (Runewood is popular)
Units- Gunmages + UA, Sword Knights, B13
    Jacks- Defender, Stormclad, Hunter

Mercs- Boomhowlers, Nyss, Rhupert Carvolo, Reinholt

If you are looking at things for your local store to stock, you will be hard pressed to keep the above models on the shelves.

I've been playing a lot of 35 point eNemo recently so the backbone of my army is a Centurion with Fail Safe. It takes the brunt of the enemy alpha strike and Captain Strangeways repairs what little damage it does take. I keep it in my battlegroup for Energizer but most of the time Arlan (who I don't have marshaling anything) just power boosts it to get it into position.

I think my 35 point list is something like:

    General-Adept Nemo
    -(Obligatory) Squire
    -Centurion
    -Stormclad
    -Thunderhead
    -Hunter
    Captain Arlan Strangeways

Yes, the Thunderhead did in fact just walk calmly out of melee with those doom reavers, why do you ask?

I find my lists vary too much to really have a backbone. The two models that do show up in almost every list are Arlan Strageways and Rhupert Carvolo.

Arlans Strageways is my number one guy. I like warjacks and he helps warjacks. One of the reasons that I'm down on character restrictions is that he's Cygnar's only solid jack support, and you only get to take him in one list. I'll even take him over the Squire, which is a model that I honestly think a lot of people crutch on and isn't as crucial as many make it out to be.

Rhupert Carvolo is Cygnar's best UA. He brings Tough and Fearless, which is a crucial ability for our expensive and fearful troops. He also has Pathfinder on demand, and if you have a unit with Blur that additional +1 DEF can make a big difference. And best of all, when one unit gets killed he can do it all to the next one.

Most common warjacks are the Stormclad, Rowdy, and Defender. The first two are focus efficient, hit hard, and are more durable than the wussy 12/18 statline. The Defender is a great second heavy with just about anyone.

To me, the backbone of Cygnar is its solos.

No other faction has such a diverse array of excellent solos - Junior, squire, Arlan, stormsmiths, Black 13th ('solo unit', but still solos in my book), Viktor, not to mention that almost all the great merc solos will work for Cygnar and synergize amazingly well with them.

Pendrake? I haven't picked him up because he always seemed kinda lackluster to me save for perhaps giving Gun Mages a better chance at Crit effects with that extra die he can give them against beasts. How do you use him?

Big use for Pendrake is for eCaine against high DEF Hordes (Beast Lore).

For me, gun mages + UA and the squire are the closest models to auto-include.

    Squire
    ATGM + dude
    PK + UA

At upcoming tourney I'll have this set in every list but one.

Reinholdt is also inseparable with shooting-oriented casters.

Squire for me if I had to pick one. ATGM+UA and long gunners if I can pick more. There are two many things in cygnar that benefit from 2" of extra control area. The focus is nice but I find that the extended control area and the fact that it's not a character are what really make squire shine.

I almost always bring 2 Defenders, min. Trencher Infantry, and a Squire. If I don't bring 2 Defenders, I replace one with the hunter instead.

Let's see... advanced deployment, dig in, two grunts with rifles, RAT 9 with Finn+Range Finder, even with the underwhelming POW 13 I'd still say that's a damn good Artillery unit.

Hordes is very big where I play, particularly Circle, so I think he can be quite valuable - it's almost like having a deadeye in your pocket for gun mages, who love their crits. Also, don't underestimate his bolo - he can clear a firing lane beautifully, and most people don't see it coming.

Seems like there's a whole lot of Centurion love these days (though plenty are still split on our big armor boy).

Nyss show up a lot for me, too. And yes, duh, Reinholdt with any of our one big shot casters.

I swear by a unit of gunmages with 2 hunters attached. Maybe its just my meta, but everyone runs 2-3 large base models at a minimum (often jacks/beasts). They are often my MVM (most valuable model)(s).

I used to run that a ton, too but I always seem to roll 5's on dice minus 4, and that's boosted. It only happens with the hunters. I have just started replacing them with longgunners. I lose the mobility but my damage output has increased significantly. It's crazy, I know, and I still think it's an awesome combo, but it seriously, I'm talking like 20 games where I've done virtually no damage with the hunter pair. Now, I just take the hunter pair with Kraye so that they can benefit from extended control and at least if they're only scratching paint they can do so while flanking. On the other hand, in the last tourney I was in, I couldn't roll below a 10 on my to hit rolls with my gun mages. 4 turns of shooting, every roll was 10 +. The look on my opponents face was priceless.

Core of my lists would be the Squire, Stormguards... Actually that's it... The rest already depends on the caster...

Ditto. I do love victory when your opponent cannot cry cheese. The victory is made all the sweater when two thirds of your army is sneered at before the match.
