Default Unit FA is twice that of UA - Why?

I've noticed that the FA of a unit of troopers tends to always be twice that of the UA, preventing you from putting a UA on every possible unit. It seems kind of pointless to be able to field 2 full units of Stormblades (for example), but only one of them gets a Unit Attachment.

Is there a reason for this?

The unit attachments are limited resources, usually requiring higher ranking officers (stormblade and trencher and longgunner l.t, swordknight major etc)

Every squad in your army is not going to have a l.t, or a major. That would be kinda silly.

And it means you have to put some more thought into it than 'I take three units of winterguard, all with u/a's!'. It puts more power in one place, making that unit more of a target.

And why is it pointless to field two units, one without an attachment? You get two units that do X. But one of them can also do Y! Net gain!

It also makes the 'casters lists better if you really want to run two units of something- a fair deal of them include "attach UA to unit for free, ignoring FA restrictions".

I haven't noticed anything restricting the use of different UAs.
Ex. The Khador IFPs now have 2 seperate UAs. That's 2 of the same unit w/ different UAs, both capable of bringing field tactics to the table. I'm sure other armies will get different UAs in good time. Personally i'd like an improvement to the Longgunners in the form of a new UA.

Please, if anything needs another u/a in cygnar it's trenchers. The longgunner u/a gives an officer ranked attacks and a standard and suppressing fire for 2 points. It's fine.

The trencher u/a gives cautious advance, an officer and a RAT 7 RNG 14 trencher for 3 points.

On topic, what leo_neil316 said is right, the UAs are all limited to FA1. It's just that the IF now have a second UA, the Black Dragons, that they can select. I suspect there might be alternate UAs for each faction in Colossals, but that is just my suspicion, as there has been no hint or leak or anything by PP that suggests that.

Off Topic, @leo_neil316: The UAs that have 2 attacks, such as Stormblades and Trencher Infantry, are usually 3 points, while those that that do not, such as Longgunners and Precursors are generally 2 points.

The reason is to prevent unit spam like in some other games IMO
