    Default Just got some trolls!

Cygnar player here decided to give the Fury mechanic a try and trolls looked cool.

I just won a auction on ebay...maybe not the most useful lot but the price seemed decent.

    Trollbloods warpack
    Borka Kegslayer
    Dire Troll Mauler (metal)
    Scattergunners Unit (NIB)
    Troll Axer (NIB)

an FYI my FLGS is almost completely warmachine and honestly way to many of us have Cygnar so I need to expect to get shot in the face early and often.

    Questions:
    1) Should I try to resell the scattergunners
    2) Should I try to resell the second Axer
    3) Is it worth buying the Rok upgrade for the mauler, it looks like I would need to cut the hand off at the wrist and put in magnets
    4) Which caster should I use to learn the whole fury mechanic
    5) What should I look to purchase next? I would assume KW or fenblades based on some initial research.

    1. I'd keep them for down the road.
    2. I don't think you'll need two.
    3. I'd wait 'til you got one of the plastic heavy kits to start Rok.
    4. Borka is fun.
    5. Either would be a good option. KWs are expensive money wise...but you'll want them eventually. If money is an issue get fenns + UA first. I do love kriels + ua + cabers though.

    1. I'd keep them, but I utilize them far less than Fenns. If you could trade them?
    2. I have two Axers. epic Doomshaper loves them. I only play two with him, or in larger games.
    3. Magnetizing a metal model is more difficult and will require some metal shaving to get the wrists to match up. Probably worth it to get a plastic kit.
    4. Borka is forgiving. When you forget the saving grace of 'camped' Fury, he may still remain standing for you to continue in the fight.
    5. Fennblades. Then Fellcaller. Then Fennblades UA.

Your buddies will love you. Hehhe

I was in your same boat about a month ago. Welcome to trolls, ale all around.

    1. While not the best unit to have started with, it won't hurt to hold onto them for use or trade bait. If you do intend to play, get the UA too.
    2. Keep it. I wouldn't go to 3 though. As Joedj points out, eDoomshaper makes good use of 2 in higher point ranges.

    3. I'm currently running a thread on converting a metal Mauler into Rök. The first 3-4 posts are about fixing that hand to make it work with that arm. The other two guys have done that conversion also had a time with it too. I cannot imagine trying to get that to work with a magnet. The plastic kit takes a magnet pretty easily though. I'd personally leave the metal Mauler as is and enjoy its superior sculpt.

    4. Borka is fun and a good lock to cut your teeth on. He is brutal, effective, and tough. He's easy to learn, but hard to master.

    5. Fennblades + UA are a perfect starting choice unit mainly due to bang for buck (actual $$$). Kriel Warriors are also great, but are more expensive ($$$) as you have to buy the box, 2 +2 blisters, the UA, and some WA Cabers Throwers. Where as Fenns are a box and the UA blister for a very solid unit.

You might want to look into Krielstone Bearer Unit and Stone Scribe Elder UA. Great buff unit and very handy to help vary list building for you.

When it comes to Solos, its the easy 3. Fell Caller, Stone Scribe Chronicler, and Janissa Stonetide. You might also want to look into Whelps as well.

Looking at possible beasts... Earthborn Dire Troll (a must have for the faction), Bomber, & Mulg.
So play like you've got a pair, or put down the metal and go find something made of plastic.

FYI That is Cygnar for sucks

    Thanks for the advice.

Based on more reading it doesn't appear many lists use impalers either so I am thinking about ebay/trading the warpack for a box of fennblades/Kriel warriors and the scattergunners for KSB. That also only leaves me with a single Axer. As this is my second faction I rather avoid the "useful is larger games" or "keep them for down the road" units/models for a while at least. I think I will plan on a fully magnetized plastic kit for Rök based on that.

There are more than a couple warcasters and beasts and the battle engine that really like the Impaler animus. Without it you will find a lot of your range game is a paltry 8 inches.

Yeah, you will want to hang onto at least 1 Impaler. Its a very solid beast with a useful range buff.

The main reason I phrased my advice on the "down the road" was that the second faction will always sneakily grow as you want to try new things or see something else in the faction that is cool. If you plan to sit down and not use anything else beyond Borka and pMadrak, that's cool and it shows a lot of dedication to certain play styles. However, most of us are a little ADD when it comes to locks and are easily distracted by shiny new things.

A lot of units in Trolls can be a touch niche; needing certain locks to really shine or become crazy. While I wouldn't use Scattergunners with Borka, they do fit nicely into another list, like Jarl Skuld.

The only lock I will tell you to definitely get is Epic Doomshaper. eDoomy is Troll's eNemo/Darius/Kraye. An all beast list is a very fun change of pace from the Borka and pMaddy playstyles.

Beyond pMadrak and Borka, the Impaler will see a lot of action. In fact...pMadrak Brick likes to have an Impaler. Borka is a unique Warlock in that he is not only hard to kill for your opponent, he is just silly fun. You will always have a smile on with Borka - Def 17, Arm 19 and stumbling drunk! Sweetness!

I play Borka a lot and have goofed off with him more then any other caster in the game, (I still live to tell about it). I even ran him out alone and in front of three opponents in a Caster Kill Hill game - It took x2 Manhunters in rear arc plus, Drago, Khador Dragoon and a Wold Guardian to kill him, (I didn't transfer any damage). Best part was when the Dragoon charged in and hit with Impact attacks and Borka stumbled away and out of range of his main weapon strike......

I would use the 2nd Axer as a proxy for other light warbeasts that you may want. You probably won't get much for a sale, but someone may want to trade for it.

    I play Cygnar/Mercs and Trollbloods

My first faction isn't even nearly filled out so while I agree that I will want every thing at the pace I am building my factions it will be while for "down the road". eDoomy is definitely on my radar.
