Question Free Strikes and a little extra

Not long been playing but im curious....as well as a few of us

If declare a charge to a model.....do i get free strikes against me when i pass through an enemies melee range or is it that you just get free strikes when you leave an engaged model ie leave combat/melee?

as i was going to charge the enemies caster but i would move past a jack with reach and a light jacks 0.5 melee range...as i could draw LoS from my base to the enemies base and in a straight line......

as i read it under Free Strikes in the Wm book it only says 'when an engaged model advances out of the enemy's melee range or LoS......' but im not engaged with that model just simply charging past him......

Also 'Aspiration' rule on my chimera means in my Control Phase i can place the model anywhere 2" away from its starting location....after reading the Placed rules can i still charge as its done in my Control Phase not when i Activate my Chimera?

    cheers if you can help

Engaged/Engaging is simply when you either A) have an enemy model in your melee range or B) are in an enemy model's melee range, regardless of if you're actually attacking that model or just wanting to move past him. Any time you advance* out of an enemy model's melee range (excluding effects that ignore free strikes), that enemy model is entitled to a free strike against you.

    * Movement in Warmachine/Hordes is divided into 4 categories: Advance (which can be divided further into Full Advance, Charge and Run), place, push and slam. Place, push and being slammed movements will never trigger free strikes, however any of the Advance movements will, unless there is a special rule in play that says otherwise (eg a model with Parry or Perfect Balance would not suffer free strikes if making an advance).

Correct, the place effect happens before that model's activation, so you can place the model (and change it's facing as part of the place effect, if you so desire) and then declare charges when you activate that model.

cheers karl that helped out and made it easy to understand.....thanx

also another thought......is the rule for jack hunter eg my mage hunter strike force work against warbeasts....its probably not im thinking just think its a shame since if you were to take kaylessa's tiered list which has lots of MHSF units against a horde army a bit useless against there big beasties

'Jack Hunter only gets it's bonus damage against Warjacks, not Warbeasts (rules that affect both will say both warjacks and warbeasts). When you think about it, the weak points on a giant bipedal robot are a little different to the weak points on a giant angry elephant or dragon spawn There are some models in Hordes that have abilities and effects which only apply to Warbeasts, too.
