Default 50 Pt Adeptis Rahn List - New To Forums

    Hi Guys,

First I want to say thank you, I've been lurking on these boards for a while and playing Ret for maybe a year but I'm much more of a painter than I am a player and it's only been this recent summer league that has me playing the game on a regular basis again. I'm really enjoying myself. I am currently at 6 wins to 1 loss in the league, and I owe most of that to your advice and discussions here on these boards.

I've used Rahn in every game, I've purchased Ossyan, Garryh and Ravyn, but I still enjoy playing Rahn and haven't switched out yet. It's also let me keep up my bonded Phoenix, which has been fun.

    My 50pt Adeptis Rahn List

    Adeptis Rahn
    Phoenix (10)
    Phoenix (10)
    Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker (2)

    Arcanist (1)
    Arcanist (1)
    10 Dawnguard Invictors (10)
    Invictor Officer & Standard (2)
    Soulless Escort (1)
    Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3)
    Ghost Sniper (2)
    House Shyeel Battle Mages (5)
    House Shyeel Magister (2)
    Mage Hunter Assassin (2)
    Mage Hunter Assassin (2)
Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios (3)

My only loss was to Khador, and I think that was using a 35 point list vs. this 50. Just couldn't put enough damage on his heavy armor, BUT I have added the Invictors so that I can add Combined Ranged Attacks to the mix.

My other opponents have been primarily Menoth, Mercs, and I had a narrow victory in my last game against a 35 point Everblight player, doing the King of the Mountain scenario. With Rahn that wasn't fun lol.

I'd like feedback on unit synergy, composition, etc. I have access to or am willing to buy just about anything, I've considered dropping the Magister and Soulless Escort for something, but I really like the idea of having Polarity Shield on a maxed out unit of Invictors that can pop their own negative upkeep spells.

    Thoughts?

Nice looking minis! It's taken me years to just find one that I'm satisfied with and can paint a multitude of models with.

Looking at the list, I'm not sure how well you deal with slams and line breakers of the sort ie Skorne, any melee beatstick army. I have recently started playing Rahn myself and find that although the feat turn for Rahn and the mittens is good and all, like you stated there comes some problems with heavy armor. From face value, I can only see the phoenixs, invictors and ghost sniper doing consistent damage. In my meta, lots of power attacks are common. Having a jack being thrown, knocked down is rather common here.

Ive always struggled with heavy armor while playing Rahn, cant say as to why its just a problem I have had.
If you could free up 4 points from your list, I'd suggest Aiyana and Holt to help deal with the armor problems while still giving you 2 very accurate hand cannon shots. Considering your list however I'm not sure how to fit them in, they do make Invictors hit rather hard tho.

This is why you bring Sentinels with him.
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.

I took a Min unit of Invictors with UA (the other 4 models weren't assembled, but more scenic bases arrive today).

I really enjoyed the Combined Ranged Attack. I imagine the same can be said for the Sentinels.

I should have enough bases this time to assemble both.

I used Skarath also, and he got a Critical: Consume on the Testament of Menoth, which was hilarious, but otherwise I think I'd have rather had the Sentinels for their damage output.

That list honestly just has to.many solos. As Murk said Sentinels are great with him, as are Nyss if you have them. Rahn works best setting up infantry kills in my experience.

I am also a fan of 1 Phoenix and one banshee with him. Helps immensely when trying to hold objectives to have multiple slams at your disposal.

Would we say this is a more balanced 50 point list?

    Adeptis Rahn
    Phoenix (10)
    Phoenix (10)

    Arcanist (1)
    10 Dawnguard Sentinels (9)
    Sentinel Officer & Standard (2)
    10 Dawnguard Invictors (10)
    Invictor Officer & Standard (2)
    Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3)
    House Shyeel Battle Mages (5)
    Mage Hunter Assassin (2)
    Mage Hunter Assassin (2)

That's quite a bit of threat in the full units of Sentinels and Invictors, and then Eiryss and 2x Mage Hunter Assassins as a "you better not ignore us" pieces, but then if people respond to the assassins then they risk a full squad of Sentinels charing into their face...

I haven't built a Banshee yet. I liked the idea of two phoenixes for the two arc nodes, and it has usually been singled out when its a single Phoenix, so having two makes them either focus on one, and risk the other, or split their fire and both survive to deal the pain. Plus two Phoenix's helps to deal with Infantry with the Combust special. That's a lot of dead soft things.

That list is fine if you have Sylys on a different list. If you don't, I would put him in with Rahn, nothing says dead Kayazy, Nyss, Hex Hunters, et like arcane secrets and a chain blast LOL.

What do you drop for Sylys? I like him too.

Could drop Eiryss to pick up a second Arcanist and Sylys.

Could drop one MHA, but I really like having two for the psychological warfare alone. People worry about my MHA's and I make a big deal about them and then they ignore the freaking death star of Combined attack Invictors shooting into their dudes.

Could drop down the Sentinels to the 6 unit, giving up 4 models for 3 points, which would also buy a Sylys and that second Arcanist.

Hated to lose the Ghost Sniper from this list too, he killed stuff, he also helped with psychological warfare and his Sniper ability let me finish off arm systems or whatever if I needed to. I'm not sure I had "too many solos" except that it was at the cost of more heavier hitting pieces, yes, but the impact of people being afraid of my solos and scattering them around the board gave me some field control just out of fear.

I own basically everything we can use, just no Houseguard stuff or the Archers.

I dunno, I've won 8 and lost 1 in the league, all with Rahn. I'm still nowhere near winning as some people have like 20 games in, but still, I like those stats.

Haven't gotten a rematch yet against that Khador player.
